86 years young, embarked on her celestial journey, leaving behind a legacy of love and invaluable life lessons.

Our hearts carry a blend of sorrow and joy as she reunites with her beloved husband, Bob Lawrence, and cherished family members.

Fondly remembered by many, including her sister Mary/Larry Mackie, brother Allan/Carol Passant, and nieces and nephews, Jane's vibrant spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Known for her close-knit family, Jane and Bob raised their children, Janet (Blake), Steven (Patty), and Ted (Mench), on their farm.

Together, they crafted a warm home and shared countless adventures, exploring Canada and the United States, creating cherished memories in motels and campsites.

Christmas at the Lawrence household was a grand celebration, filled with the laughter of friends and family, card games, and Mom's famous half moons—delicious pastries made with mincemeat that became a family favorite, even enjoyed frozen.

Jane's indomitable spirit faced the onset of dementia seven years ago. A tenacious fighter, she battled to maintain control over her life, a testament to her lifelong independence. A devoted Christian, Jane lived her faith by extending kindness to all she knew.

A Celebration service for Jane will be held in the Spring .

Passed away peacefully at home January 4, 2024 at the age of 101 and will soon be reunited with her beloved husband, Robby who was laid to rest in June 1987.

She was a cherished mother, supporter and friend to her son Bruce, daughter Pamela and son-in-law Bruce Welsh.

Adored by her grandsons, Kyle and Dylan, she was an amazing, ever present, loving Grandma and Great Grandma. Nancy will be fondly missed and remembered by family, her many nieces and nephews,

extended family and friends.

Nancy was a North American and Commonwealth track star. She won many Provincial, Canadian, and American Championships and set Canadian records in the 60, 75 and 100 dashes.

As a relay team member, her squad set Canadian and North American records and won the Canadian and United States Relay Championships multiple times. Entering the peak of her career, Nancy was destined to be an Olympian and possible multi-medal contender.

Hitler would ruin Nancy Murrall’s dream to run in the 1940 Helsinki Olympic Games and her chances to compete representing Canada were put on hold. The world was at war and the Olympic Games were postponed indefinitely. She ran in the Ontario and Canadian championships in 1941 and 1942 collecting more gold medals but with no return of the Olympic Games in site, she retired. Nancy married Robert in 1942 and took a break from competition.

In 1944 she was encouraged to return to training and rejoin the Marvelettes Track Club relay team.

The championships and success of the team continued. In 1947 she was considering retiring again but with the announcement of the return of the Olympic Games to be held in London England in 1948, she set her sights on the Canadian Olympic Trials. July 1948, Nancy was rated as one of the fastest sprinters in the Dominion. August 7, 1948 her Olympic dream came true in London England running for Canada the second leg of the 4x100m relay with the team winning the Bronze; the only medal won by Canada in the 1948 Summer Olympics.

Nancy returned home a proud Canadian to a hero’s welcome in her hometown of Oshawa and retired from track. Son Bruce was born the following year and Pamela two years later.

Nancy went on to work for Ontario County Clerk Treasurer office and then Fairview Lodge managing clients’ accounts until she retired at age 65. Sadly her husband Rob passed away suddenly only weeks after her retirement.

Nita Bouma

September 17, 1932 - November 29, 2023

"For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide to the end" - Psalm 48:1

On the 29th of November, 2023, at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie, Nita went peacefully into Heaven in her 92nd year after a brief illness.

Predeceased by her husband Okke of 63 years, she is survived by her children Anne and Bert Langendyk, Roger and Laura Bouma, Teresa and Ronald Buschman, and Caroline and Richard Morsink.

Nita was a much loved Oma to 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was the beloved sister to Lydia (the late Joop) and Celine (Ben) and sister-in-law to Charles, predeceased by sisters Carla and Elisabeth 'Bep' (Jake).

Nita was born on September 17, 1932, in Paramaribo, Dutch Guiana (now Suriname), and moved with her family to Zaandam, Netherlands, when she was 2. Nita's life was marked by World War II, which resulted in her being relocated to Makkum, Friesland, where she later met Okke, which she described as love at first site. Nita was just 15 when her mother passed away in 1947.

When Okke and his family immigrated to Canada in 1951, he promised Nita that she would follow, which she did in 1952. They married in 1953 and settled in Newcastle, Ontario, where Anne, Roger, and Teresa were born. In 1965, Okke's career took them to Montreal, where Caroline was born, and then back to Oshawa in 1983, when they became active members of Zion Church.

Mom loved her plants and caring for her gardens at home and at their church. After Okke retired in 1988, they spent many winters in Florida, which provided mom with more gardens to tend.

In 2008, Okke and Nita moved to Holland Christian Homes in Brampton, where Okke would later pass. As Nita's health declined over the last few months, she would move once more to Barrie to be near her daughter Caroline. Her final days were spent in the care of Hospice Simcoe.

Our family is so grateful to the wonderful staff and volunteers who showed our Mom and our family so much care and kindness through Mom's final days.

Family and friends are invited to join a celebration of life for Nita at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 4th, at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E.) Oshawa. Refreshments to follow. Private interment to take place at Thornton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Simcoe Hospice https://hospicesimcoe.ca/
