Left us peacefully, after a brief illness, at the Trillium Mississauga Hospital on July 19, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of Miroslav “Fred” Matich for over 63 years. Dearly loved mother of Matt (Angela), Michael and late daughter Elizabeth. Loving grandmother of Mark, Matthew and John. Daughter of Jack Lergessner (deceased) and Edith Riipinen (deceased). She had a deeply close and lifelong friendship with her one sister, Kay Goldfarb (Saul-deceased). Aunt of Jim Goldfarb, Robert Goldfarb (Danielle) and Rebecca Rogerson (Rick). Cousin of Lesley Tissington (Paul), Jan Kieseker (John-deceased), and Jim Lergessner. Loved daughter-in-law of Mate Matich and Anka Klinac (both deceased). Sister-in-law of the late Josephine Kosovich (Bill-deceased), Mary Sucich (Jack-deceased), Sophie (deceased), the late Ivan (Rosaleen), Emeric (deceased), Florence and Elsie Matich.
Helen was born and grew up in Brisbane, Australia. She attended the All Hallows School, excelling in academics and athletics, in particular swimming. Upon graduation, she embarked on a secretarial career, which took her to London, England in 1953 and on to Canada in 1957, working for Trans Canada Airlines. Fred and Helen met in Montreal and got married there in 1961. They settled in Etobicoke, Ontario in 1962. When her children were grown up, she returned to work, and had a long and fulfilling second career chapter as an executive secretary with the Archdiocese of Toronto. Helen relished the adventure of travel. Her voyages included numerous visits to family members and friends in Australia and New Zealand, tracing the roots of her family tree in Europe, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, and sightseeing expeditions such as river cruises and train journeys. She served the church in many capacities, notably liturgy of the word and music. She greatly enjoyed reading, theatre and music. For decades, she shared her beautiful singing voice with the world in church choirs and also was a skilled pianist.
Visitation will take place at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 2-4 pm and from 7-9 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11 am. It is with broken hearts that we sadly announce the passing of Hans A. Haas on July 15, 2024, just 8 days after the passing of the love of his life, Ruth.
Hans was the beloved husband of Ruth for 71 years. Their devotion to each other was clearly manifested in their daily lives together. Hans was the loving father to Edeltraud (deceased 1982), Heidi (deceased 2022), Claudia (deceased 1970), Ilona, Hans, Michael and Kristina. Much loved father-in-law to Chester, Antonella, Kerri and Peter. Treasured Opa to Jason, Simone, Katrina, Austin, Lukas, Daniel, Thomas, Arianna and great Opa to Georgia, Daisie May and Sophie. Hans will forever be loved and cherished by his twin sister Gretel, his sister Irmgard, and his many nieces and nephews.
Hans and Ruth were married in Germany and moved to Canada in 1956. They settled in Oshawa in 1972 and raised their large family.
Hans was educated and trained in Germany as a Millwright and joined the Millwright Union Local 2309 where he worked for 50 years. Dad also was skilled in ironworking, welding and carpentry.
Hans was proud of his German Heritage. He was always quick with a joke and loved to entertain family and friends. He loved to play the harmonica and accordion and sing German songs. Gatherings with family and friends were always accompanied with German food, cake, good German coffee and of course beer and schnapps. He was skilled with tools and built many things. Many of the kids’ school projects were made by Hans. Hans loved dogs and especially his German Shepherd Mollie.
Hans was widely known for his humour, huge heart, strong opinions, stubbornness, generosity and kindness.
Hans will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all.
Thank you Mum and Dad for your incredible sacrifices throughout the years. You gave us all a wonderful life despite the heartaches and challenges that life threw at you. You did your best and raised us with strong family values. We love you and will miss you both very much.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Brenda Heise – beloved wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend.
As a gentle, patient, caring, and compassionate woman, Brenda always had a warm smile or hug for everyone she met. Her kindhearted character is the legacy she passes on to her family.
Brenda was born April 16, 1947 in Kelowna, BC as the first and only daughter of Peggy and William Greenaway. She completed her primary and secondary schooling in Kelowna and achieved her hairdressing certification in Vernon. The growth of Kelowna and Westbank throughout Brenda’s life never ceased to amaze her; the Okanagan valley was her home and her heart.
Brenda married Alwin Heise in February 1967; they had two boys, Craig and Darrin. Brenda’s kids were the apple of her eye, as were her grandchildren, Zachary, Brandon, and Alyssa and great-grandchild, Jaxon. Brenda was known as ‘Mom’ to many of her sons’ friends. She was beloved by all who met her and were fortunate to spend time with her.
Brenda is predeceased by her brothers Dave and Harold Greenaway, and nieces Ivy Matheson and Patricia Larsen. She is survived by her husband, Alwin; sons Craig Heise and Darrin (Kristal) Heise; her grandchildren Zachary Heise (Caitlin Ferguson) and Brandon and Alyssa Heise; great-grandson Jaxon Heise; brothers Tom (Judy) Greenaway, Fred (Lynn) Greenaway; and numerous adored nieces and nephews. Brenda and Alwin celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on February 27, 2024; she will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Brenda’s life will take place on TUESDAY, JULY 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM, located at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with Pastor David Wunderlich officiating. Peacefully passed away on July 3, 2024 at Moira Place Long Term Care, at the age of 97.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Bradley. Cherished mother of Kathleen Hyland (Bob), Tracey Edwards (Peter), Jeffrey McKendrick (Ratipa), and James Matthew McKendrick. Loving grandmother of Kelly Leeder (Jonathon), Heather Hyland, Sarah Stapley (Mathew), Adam Stapley, Allen McKendrick (Georgia), Andrew McKendrick, Eric McKendrick, and Mitchell McKendrick and great-grandmother of Harry, Isla, Elvie, Ellie, and Bradley.
Helen was born in Kirkland Lake and raised in Toronto. She met and married the love of her life, Bradley, and they raised 4 children.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 12 p.m.
Helen Isabel Taylor of Owen Sound passed at the Owen Sound Hospital on June 1, 2024, in her 85th year.
Cherished wife of the late Ken Taylor. Survived by her daughter Sherrie (Gary) Casemore of Port Elgin, son David of Owen Sound, grandsons Ryan of Port Elgin and Tyler (Stephanie) of Cumberland, BC and her great granddaughter Eleanor (Ellie). Also survived by her sisters Shirley (Alex) Jackson of Stratford and Bonnie (Jim) Moore of Owen Sound.
Predeceased by brothers, Lorne (Charlotte), Doug and Bill and her parents Harry and Nellie (Law) Marshall. Missed by many nieces and nephews, who referred to her as Auntie Helen.
Cremation has taken place and there will not be a service.

Hans Hausler, born on March 13,1939, passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Sunday July 7, 2024 in his 86th year. He was predeceased by his wife Charlotte, parents Rudolph (Opa) and Yolanda (Oma) and sister Lisa (Mickey). He is survived by his son Paul and his wife Ruth, daughter Lyn and her husband Roy, grandchildren Mark, Ryan and Emelie, great grandchildren Stevie, Lyla and Iris, brother Horst and very good friend Jane Carmichael.

Great Poppa to Robbie and Reina. Cherished by Shirley Greaves, Betty and Frank McKenney, Gen and Bud Greaves, Carol and Rob Neff, Tal Morgan, and Sian Wright. Favorite Uncle Denny to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by Nancy Greaves and his “adopted sister”, Marion Gilchrist.
Born in Port Arthur, the most important aspects of his life were his family connections.
A man of faith, integrity and purpose. Denny spent his life in service to his workplace, his church and his community.
A journeyman printer, retail businessman, Gala Gift Shop owner in Elmvale, Dean of Residence at the Baptist Leadership Education Centre, Provincial Court Service Officer, a super gardener, bass singer, cook and baker, home decorator and cross-stitcher. Former member of the Fort William Male Choir, Board member of Men Alive, Barrie ISCF, Convention of Ontario Baptist Churches in Thunder Bay, Barrie and Whitby, Camp Kwasind Management Committee, Lynde Creek Resident Council, and the WOW Mall Walkers.
Predeceased by his parents Aune and Ed Greaves, Mary and Bill Greaves, Dr. Frank Kinsey, Gail Morgan, John Wright, Fin and Burt Sellick. Special thanks to Ross Carkner for friendship, wisdom and guidance.

Helen passed away on January 16, 2024 in her 91st year with her daughters by her side at Dufferin Oaks, Shelburne, Ontario.
Survived by her daughter Barbara Pallister-Smith (Doug), son Victor Pallister (Margaret) and daughter Darlene Morrow (Jerry), and brother, Leonard Black and four grandchildren, Tracy Pallister (Gordie Zeh), Mark Pallister (Adrienne), Tyler Morrow (Emily) and Carly Morrow.
Predeceased by her parents George & Ila Black, husband Mac, daughter Ivy, sister Beryl Black and sister-in-law Jean Black.
Helen graduated from Toronto Normal School in 1951 .Her first teaching job was in Egremont township (Boothville) during the 1951-2 school year. Helen and Mac were married July 26, 1952 and began farming in the Bethel area. In 1954 they moved to a farm near Swinton Park. Helen returned to full time teaching in 1965 after having raised four children. Helen continued her teaching career, later teaching special education. Helen’s last teaching position was at Grey Highlands Secondary School teaching life skills to the developmentally disabled.
Helen retired from teaching in 1988. Mac and Helen sold the farm in 1978 and settled in Flesherton until 1999, when they decided to move to Dundalk. Helen was always involved in the community with various charitable events and very active in church activities. Helen and Mac also enjoyed travelling to Europe, British Isles, Australia, New Zealand and numerous bus trips to the United States enjoying destinations that featured country music. Helen’s hobbies included spending many hours in her garden, baking and playing the piano.
In Helen’s later years she was diagnosed with dementia which required a move to assisted living at Birmingham Lodge, Mount Forest in 2014 and later a move to Dufferin Oaks in October 2017. A heartfelt thank you to Dufferin Oaks caregiving staff and Sherri Giles Personal Support caregiver for their endless compassion and care. Also, providing comfort and support during Helen’s final hours.
Friends and family will be received at the McMillan & Jack Funeral Home – 291 Main Street East, Dundalk on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 6 – 9 p.m. The funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Spring interment at Dundalk Maple Grove Cemetery.
