MAL, Mona M. Mal - Tuesday, January 1st, 1946 - Monday, September 9th, 2024

It is with great sorrow, but firm faith in God's promises, that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother Ji, Mona Mal, of Whitby, Ontario on September 9. She was 78 years old. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, whose life was marked by love, generosity, and unwavering faith.

Born on January 1, 1946 in Uttar Pradesh, India, Mona lived a life of selfless service to her family and community. Mona lost her parents, Harry and Isabella Smith, at a young age, and was raised by her aunt and adopted family. Mona attended high school in Meerut, India after which she completed a Bachelor's Degree and Master’s Degree in Sanskrit before embarking on an impactful teaching career.

Mona married Stephen Mal in January 1978. During their 46 years of marriage they had two children, Peter and Naomi (Shobha). Mona and Stephen lived in Halifax, NS from 1978 to 2009 where she was known for her generous hospitality, kindness and love which she manifested in their home, church, business and community. In 2009, they moved to Ontario to be closer to family.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life, and she devoted herself to sharing His love with everyone around her through her kind words, generous actions, and quiet prayers.

She is survived by her children: Shobha (Rob), Peter (Melodie), Don (Kathy), Noel (Shelley), Bala (Rajan), Mina (Shekar), Nina (Aijaz). As Dadi and Nani (grandmother) she brought joy, wisdom, and unconditional love to her many grandchildren (Shyla, Sean, Shabana, Amy, Jessica, Mark, Sarina, Rachel, Josh, Amiyah, Asha, Simeon, Ethan, Jacob, Nash, Revival, Matthew and Jamie) and great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we find comfort in the knowledge that she is resting in the arms of her Savior. Her legacy of faith, love, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to thank the entire team at Oak Ridges Hospice, Port Perry (ON) for their care and compassion during her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 12 at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home (5295 Thickson Rd, Whitby, ON) 905-655-3662. The family invites all who knew her to join them in honoring her life and faith.
