STRADLING, Kevin Patrick Stradling

STRADLING, Kevin Patrick Stradling  -   It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kevin Patrick Stradling, who left this world unexpectedly on July 28th, 2024, at the age of 50.

He was born in Scarborough, Ontario, on July 9th, 1974, to his mother, Dianne Stradling, and Father Charles Stradling Senior. Kevin passed away peacefully in his sleep due to natural causes. He will be forever
remembered by his five children: Matthew (Bekii), Madisyn, Kaleah, Kieran, and Rylan.

Kevin’s journey through life was marked by significant milestones and achievements.

He shared an unbreakable bond with Michelle Stradling, to whom he was married on August 7th, 1999. Though separated, they remained married due to the simple fact that neither were willing to pay for the divorce; they were stubborn like that. He would then be blessed with the arrival of two adventurous and kind sons with whom he shared with Naomi Jackson.

Kevin’s educational path saw him attending Trenton High School, Durham Continuing Education, and Trillium College. Trillium is where Kevin would begin to define his career. He dedicated seven years of his life as a child and youth worker where he would make a major difference in the lives of those he cared for and those with whom he worked. This commitment to helping others continued when he took on the role of supervisor at Collaborative Community Connections.

Kevin’s hobbies and interests painted a picture of a man who loved deeply and lived passionately. As many of you will know, Kevin found joy in cooking and baking and would often offer to bake a cake or make a dessert
for those he cared about.

Kevin, as quoted by his son Matthew, was a ‘Certified Gamer’ and also an avid fan of WWE and would never pass up a smackdown. He was also a major fan of Halloween and horror, enjoying many seasonal trips to Spirit
Halloween with daughter Madisyn and frequent visits to Deadly Grounds with his children for their horror-themed coffee. The movies that you could count on Kevin to talk your ear off about for hours were The Crow, Halloween (the originals), Friday the 13th, and Gremlins.

If he wasn’t working, Kevin could be found spending the majority of his time with his beloved children. Whether it was climbing rocks they shouldn’t at the lake, being spun far too fast at the blue park, or smashing open rocks at the dog park.

Kevin’s personality was a colourful tapestry of characteristics that endeared him to all that knew him. He was known for his knack for debate and his unwillingness to lose at an argument. Kevin was the ‘Debate King’ who could hold his own in any discussion, even if he was wrong. He could be loud, stubborn, and grumpy, but his loving and kind nature always shone through.

Kevin’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 10th, 2024. Those who are interested can drop by between 1 and 5 pm. at The Legion on 471 Simcoe St., South Oshawa, Ontario. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us as we honour his memory and share stories of the laughter he brought into our lives.

Arrangments with ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME .

Kevin’s life was a testament to the importance of family, the value of humour, and the impact one person can have on the world. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. May his soul rest in peace, and may he only argue with us in our dreams, where we may stand a chance

SEUNARINE, Cynthia E. (nee MAHABIR)   -
July 5, 1931 - July 9, 2024

On July 9 2024, Cynthia Esther Seunarine breathed her last, and is now in the presence of her Saviour, Jesus Christ, counted among that great assembly of the witnesses of faith.

Her children would like to announce the passing of their beloved mother, Cynthia Esther Seunarine on July 9th, at the village of Erin Meadows Retirement Home, in Mississauga.

Cynthia grew up in Trinidad and followed the family path by becoming a teacher.

She taught in many schools, and in the 1960s, she established, by invitation, a school on the compound of the major sugar manufacturing company in Trinidad.

She seized the opportunity there to practise her innovative teaching skills. In 1966, the family moved to Jamaica, and then to the USA.

This nomadic precedent led to homes in Princeton and other parts of New Jersey, then to Toronto, Canada. She moved through six houses in the next fifty years, as expressed in a poem by her granddaughter, Kelsey, "My Grandma lived in 29 houses." Cynthia will be profoundly missed by groups such as, "Exploring Faith", and "Ethnic Ministries" of the United Church of Canada. At Westminster United Church, structuring the church library and initiating the Prayer Team were highlights of her involvement.

Saddened, yet grateful for her legacy, are her five children: Harold (Pat), Betty, David (Karen), Joy (Don) and Donna (Doug); as well as her brother, Neville; and her sisters-in-law, Florence (Horace) and Bernice (Rawle).

She was predeceased by her sisters, Marion (Robert), Lucille (Ivan) and Grace (Winston); her brothers, Horace and Rawle; her sister-in-law, Dawne (Neville); as well as her parents, David and Rose (nee Kunjah) Mahabir. Her nine grandchildren, nieces, nephews, students and colleagues in Jamaica, New Jersey, and Toronto are indebted to her skills as a sharer of knowledge. Her essay "Teaching is My Mission" in Our Roots, Our Lives, 2003, Ed. Dr. Wehn-In Ng, is a testament to her calling.

The family appreciates all the expressions of sympathy. In Cynthia's memory, a donation may be made to the Mission and Service Fund (United Church of Canada), Alzheimer Society (Ontario), or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (Canada).

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Westminster United Church, 4094 Tomken Rd., Mississauga, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17th, followed by a reception.

Cynthia is deeply missed from our lives - her grace, laughter, kindness, her heart for service and her great faith. May she rest in peace from her earthly struggles.

SELBY, Constance (Pat) Patricia (nee GRIFFIN)  -
December 1933 - July 2024

It's the end of an era with the passing of Pat Selby.

Surrounded by her children, Diane, Michael (Wendy), Carol, Alan (Kristen) she rejoined her husband, Alan and daughter, Trish/Pat peacefully on July 15th.

Pat is survived by her family as mentioned, sister, Mary Bogue of Middlesex UK; grandchildren, Laura (Andrew and great-granddaughter, Madeline), David, Robbie, Ryan, Cheyenne, Katie and Ella greatly miss their Nana as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Pat led a creative life. At Alma College she was President of the Drama Club. Everyone saw Pat heading to Broadway via Stratford. She was sidelined by a tall, dark and handsome man, and a family was the new future. Thankfully, her artistry did not end there.

She painted in oil and sketched beautifully. She taught needlepoint and went on to become a professional wedding cake designer and chocolatier. Her outstanding floral arrangements won many a blue ribbon and graced many weddings.

Pat actively volunteered with Crescent School, St. John's Anglican, the Muskoka Golf & Country Club, Imperial Order of Daughters of the Empire (IODE), Toronto Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Committee, Meals on Wheels. To further celebrate Pat, a service and reception are on the horizon.
