She loved all her nieces and nephews Rob (Shannon), Nadine (Brett), Matt (Lori), Michael, Monique, Johnny, Melissa and all her great nieces and nephews.Olga never forgot her family in Ukraine and taught us that it was very important that we never forgot where our roots came from.Olga arrived in Oshawa with her family in 1949 from Horodnycia, Ukraine. Here she met her husband and they soon married and settled into the Ukrainian community. She was proud of her Ukrainian Heritage and became very active in the community. She made pyroghy at the parish hall and was one of the few ladies who could pick up a tune, put words to it and sing to her heart's content. She was a parish sister (systrychia) at St. Geroges's Ukrainian Catholic Church and attended to all of the decorating of all church festivities. She won an award from the Ministry of Citizenship as most outstanding volunteer. She was curious and had a great sense of humour. She was a perfectionist and determined in all aspects of her life. It was her strong faith in God that kept her alive and active. She taught us to love each other. But most of all her love was unconditional.Mamma, although a tear will drop every time we think of you we will be consoled knowing that you are now resting in the arms of our Lord. We will miss you dearly but your love will live with us forever.Arrangements entrusted with ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, Oshawa.Visitation will be held on Sunday December 6th from 5pm to 7pm, with Panachyda at 6pm. January 5, 1933 - October 4, 2020 In Loving Memory of Olga Romic who passed away on Sunday October 4, 2020 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto at the age of 87.Married to Nikola for 60 years, Olga was a beloved mother to Marina (John) and Alexandra (Lou), and an incomparable Bubi to her grandchildren Andrew and Lauren. She was predeceased by her brother Miodrag of Junkovac, Serbia.Olga made a few big moves in her life — leaving her native Serbia in 1964 for Paris, France and from there to Toronto in 1966.Through her determination and hard work, she was able to create a loving, comfortable home and life for her family.Despite the upheavals of moving to an unfamiliar place, Olga’s strength and resilience helped her adapt to the challenges of a new country and language. She embraced her Canadian identity and proudly displayed the flag in her window on Canada Day. Olga was expert in a variety of skills, especially in the culinary arts. Her recipes were eagerly sought, but very rarely duplicated. She loved to cook for her grandchildren, who were often disappointed with their parents’ attempts to replicate Bubi’s cooking. “Not like Bubi’s” was generally the verdict. What made some of her meals so special was the personal touch of adding ingredients that she grew in her own garden. Her green thumb was the envy of friends, neighbours and family alike. Olga was tireless in her commitment and devotion to her family. Her generosity, loving heart and kindness also touched everyone she met, whether they be new friends or lifelong companions.Olga, Mom, Bubi… you will be missed. Many heartfelt thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at St. Michael’s Hospital, the PSWs at Circle of Care and staff of the Central East Local Health Integration Network – your extraordinary support, dedication and kindness are very much appreciated. Condolences may be offered at mountpleasantgroup.com .
