Passed away peacefully at Summit Place in Owen Sound on Thursday, July 11, 2024. Born on Monday, April 22, 1940, Kenneth Joseph Hillyer of Owen Sound, was in his 85th year.
Beloved husband and best friend of the late Carol Hillyer (nee Millier). Proud father of David Hillyer (Heather), Sherri Grandine (Craig) and Bradley Hillyer, all of Owen Sound. Loving grandfather of Quentin (Shelby), Rebecca (Johann), Elizabeth (Will), Chelsea, Drew and Charles (Camila). Cherished great-grandfather of Myles, Maelyn, Eden, Hannah, Hazel and Elsie. Dear brother of Gloria Mackie and Wayne Hillyer (Virginia). Ken will be also missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his parents William and Lucinda Hillyer, and his siblings Bill Hillyer, Jean Horne, Grace Toman, Ruth Belsey, John Hillyer, Shirley Eames, Joan Thomson, Betty Byers and Pat Clark.
Ken was employed by VanWyk packaging for 44 years until he retired at the age of 65. He became an active member of his community and was well known for his participation in the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree knight and a member of the Silver C’s. He was a passionate volunteer for the annual Salmon Spectacular, the Festival of Northern Lights, and Meals on Wheels. Ken found joy watching for Great Lakes shipping and would often be found spending hours under the Sarnia bridge watching out for any ships that would pass. He collected memorabilia from this hobby and will fondly be remembered as “Shore Captain”. Ken’s love for his family will be one of the many memories we hold dear to our hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 554 15th Street East, Owen Sound, on July 30th at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. ALMAS, NALINI (nee PANT) Nalini Almas (nee Pant) of Huntsville, Ontario, formerly of Brantford, slipped away from us in her gentle style, peacefully and quietly, the morning of July 21, 2024 at 5:00 a.m., at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. In the weeks leading to her passing, she was surrounded daily by loving family and friends. Beloved wife of Bob; loving mother of Michael Almas and Asha Almas; and sister of Anjili Pant. Predeceased by her parents, Henry and Sheila Pant. Nalini will be remembered for her many accomplishments as a teacher and artist. Most of all she will be remembered by all for her vibrant personality, wonderful sense of humour and kindness. Over the past year she fought a courageous battle. In the battle of hearts – she was always a winner. If you knew her – it was impossible not to love her. The family wish to thank all of the medical staff concerned with Nalini's care over the past year, including: Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie; Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton; and the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. FEDYK, GREGORY Gregory Harry Fedyk, 90, of Pickering, Ontario, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on July 17, 2024. Gregory was born on February 9, 1934, to Melania and Alex Fedyk (Fedyshyn). Gregory was predeceased by his wife, Helen; brother, John; and sisters, Mary and Anne. He is survived by his children, Greg (Karen), Jeff (Leith), Susan, Jennifer (Gary); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home (28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax) on Monday, July 29th, from 10 – 11 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Reception to follow from 12 – 2 p.m. Interment of cremated remains will take place at 3 p.m. at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens (21 Garrard Road, Whitby).

Robert James “Bob” Rush, of Hanover, passed away after a brief illness at Hanover and District Hospital on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. He was 67.
Born in Durham, Ontario on May 27, 1957 to the late John "Jack" and Shirley (nee Follis) Rush. Better known as Bob to many family and friends, he will be missed. He enjoyed doing construction jobs and enjoying time with his family.
Survived by daughter Stacey Rush , Steve Schulty and step sons Justin Rush, Kale (Niki) Fletcher and Kyle (Amanda) Fletcher. Loved grandpa of Nash, Dominic, Brexton, Colton, Clara, Cooper, Tyson and Kurt.

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Charles Ward, age 85, of Dartmouth. Don passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the Admiral Long Term Care Centre in Halifax.
Born in Amherst Head, NS, he was a son of the late Joseph and Verna (Gilbert) Ward.
He graduated from Amherst Regional High School and started his 40 year career with the Royal Bank.
He was active in the communities of which he worked. He was a charter member of the Kinsman Club of Gander and a charter member of Rotary Clubs in Corner Brook and Charlottetown. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the service team. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Victoria Lodge, Charlottetown. A highlight during his working years was an invitation to a garden party for the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Following retirement, he took up a new career driving cars for the O’Regan group throughout the Atlantic provinces.
He and Verna spent their summers at the farm in Amherst Head mowing grass, planting vegetables and his beautiful gladiolus. They also took up square dancing and for more than 20 years traveled to dances throughout the maritimes where they met many new friends.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 58 years, Verna (Greeno) Ward, Dartmouth; son, Michael, Dartmouth; brother Clayton and wife Judy, Tidnish Bridge, nieces Carla Jo (Andy) UK and Beth Ann (Dale), Riverport, NS.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Merv Dearing who died of a broken heart, eighteen days after losing the love of his life. Merv was predeceased by his sweetheart of 60 years Bonnie. Loving father of daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Geoff Hessel. Cherished papa of Andrea Hessel (Shaun Benoit). Great papa of Jenna, Drew and Harper Benoit. Son of the late Stella and Leon Dearing. Predeceased by his sister, Norma Dearing. Merv loved to play the piano, garden, host parties and dance with Bonnie. Family and friends were everything to him. Merv retired from Brewers Retail where he worked as a truck driver and cashier. He was a dedicated, loyal, hard working employee who loved his job. Merv was eager to lend a hand to anyone who needed him and will be remembered as a social butterfly with an infectious smile. The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor. We are forever grateful to the Rose Unit personnel who took special care of Merv in his final moments. Thank you to the entire Rose Unit staff and Dr. Crozier for providing exceptional care for Merv over the past five years. Cremation has taken place. Edward was predeceased by the love and joy of his life his wife, Amy; parents, Albert & Mary Guy; brothers, Mark, Llewelyn, Hayward, Walter, Nelson, George; and sister, Bessie.
Edward worked various different jobs throughout his lifetime including working for the Town of Peterview, NL, driving heavy equipment, and family farming. He was a dedicated man who would work extremely hard to provide a foundation for his family, as family meant the most to him. He also dearly loved his pet, Pearl, and took care of his roosters and hens daily. His love of nature and animals was next to none. He was so adventurous by going moose hunting, rabbit catching, quading, picking berries, and fishing. He was always up for a trip in the woods to get a load of wood.
His silly wit would come to life even more when surrounded by children, his laughter was contagious; he truly was a joyful soul.
Edward enjoyed music, dancing, singing and was a firm believer in God and the power of prayer. A wholesome soul whom we will live with forever in our hearts.
The public visitation will take place Friday, July 26, 2024 at 2-4 & 7-9 pm from Botwood Funeral Home, 147 Commonwealth Drive, Botwood, NL.
The funeral service will take place Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2 pm from The Salvation Army Citadel, Peterview, NL.
The interment will follow at the House of God Cemetery, Union Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
