Frank will be fondly remembered by his loving wife Caroline for 34 years, and his daughter Ashley (Devin).

Frank lived his life to the fullest. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, including camping, fishing, and most of all riding his Harley with the club.

Cremation has taken place.

Fran’s love of life didn’t come to an end with her death.

Fran passed away on September 4, 2023 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Fran.

She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities of gardening, biking, playing the guitar and a quiet evening with friends and a glass of wine in hand.

Fran who always gave so generously of her heart and time to those she loved will be greatly missed.

Fran is survived by her daughter Angela, grand-daughter Taylor and grand-son Aidan.

Lovingly remembered by her sisters Eileen and her husband Grant, Jo-an and her partner John, brother Paul and his wife Coleen, nieces Debbie and her husband John, Donna and her husband Fred, Brie, nephew Todd, grand-nephew Nicholas and cousins Cheryl and Sandra of Guelph.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Fran’s friends Maureen, Kelly, Ann, Debra, Elizabeth, Donna, Michelle, Ilka, Julia and Luis who were there to support her and care for her each and every day.

We also wish to thank the nurses at Lakeridge Hospital in Oshawa who treated Fran with a warm heart and loving care and most of all laughter.

Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend was granted his angel wings on Sept 4th, 2023, at the age of 57.

His final moments were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Ferdie was born on October 8th, 1965 in Manila, Philippines, to Felizardo and Leticia Cruz.

He went to high school in St. Mary's Academy and continued his education at Feati University, graduating at 1986 with a civil engineering degree.

Ferdie is survived by his wife, Lorie; children, Gio and Kate; brothers, Ariel and July and sister Lynette.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Sunday, September 10th, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the McEachnie Funeral Home (28 Old Kingston Rd, Ajax, ON L1T2Z7). A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 11th 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

ith deep sadness, the Loyola Jesuit Community announces the death of Fr. Rob Brennan, SJ, who passed peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Jesuit Infirmary, René Goupil House, in Pickering, ON.

Fr. Brennan was 78 years old and about to celebrate his 53rd anniversary as a Jesuit.

He was predeceased by his parents, L. Col. Francis Charles and Beatrice Marie (née Craven); and by his brother, Peter. Survived by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Van Houten and her husband, Stephen; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Brennan (née Cameron); as well as his nieces and nephews, Shelley (Peter Conroy), Sean (Melissa), Kevin, Ashley (Peter Kourtsidis), Sarah Van Houten (Michael Horacki), Graham Van Houten (Ashley Lucas) and Owen Van Houten; and by numerous grandnephews and grandnieces.

His passing is mourned not only by his family, but also by the Jesuit community and by the many students, staff, alumni, parents and associates of Loyola High School in Montreal, where he served for most of his priestly life.

Wake will be held at Côte des Neiges Funeral Home, 4525 Côte des Neiges Blvd, Montreal, Friday, September 8, 2 - 4 p.m., 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Church, 4455 West Broadway Avenue, Montreal, Saturday, September 9, at 11 a.m. For people who cannot attend the ceremony, please find the webcast link as follow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9CDF2vOQJc. Much loved husband of Irene for almost 63 years.

Frank was born in Saint-Louis de Kent, New Brunswick to Charles & Margaret Tremblay, his childhood was not an easy one, but it helped to shape him into a strong, hard working man.

During Peace Times, Frank was enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces, trained as a parachuter.

He later found a career as a high rise window cleaner in Toronto and owned his own business.

He was an incredible chef & baker, treating family and friends to many delicious meals and treats.

He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

A private celebration of life with family and friends will be held at a later date.

Surrounded by family, Fran passed away peacefully, at home, on August 14, 2023.

She is deeply missed by her husband, family, and friends.

Fran was an exceptionally talented musician.

In the 70s and 80s, she was the lead vocalist for several bands and received multiple Juno Award nominations. Fran also had a deep affection for dogs and their companionship.

(Ballyward, N. Ireland Oct. 2, 1942). It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Dad, Fergus McCartan on August 14, 2023 at the age of 80.

Beloved husband of Catherine "Kathy" (nee: Cullen) for 61 years.

Father of Kathleen (David), Fergus (Sharon L) and Shane (Carrie).

Loving Grandad to Brittany, Sara, Melissa, Jed, Kathryn and Paul.

Raised at the horseshoe Ballymagreehan, Leitrim, Co. Down in Northern Ireland, until he immigrated to Canada, where he met his wife, Kathy. After a couple of trips back and forth, they finally made their home in Ontario, even though his heart was always in Ireland.

He spent 45 years with the Carpenter's Local 27. His love was carpentry...anything with wood, and in the latter years of his life he took up wood carving.

He will be sorely missed by his siblings in Ireland. Sisters Mary, Doreen and brother Paddy. He is predeceased by his sister Tishy.

The 3 McCartan's that immigrated to Canada have all passed this year.

May they all rest in peace and share in a drink or two; Seamus, Josephine & Fergus.

There will be a funeral mass held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish on Tuesday August 22nd at 10:30am. His ashes will then go back home to Ireland.

On August 8, 2023, at Fairview Lodge (Trafalgar Square), Florence Kalar passed away with her daughter by her side. Florence was in her 98th year,

Florence was born in Orillia, Ontario on February 23, 1926 to Henry & Teenie Read.

In the early 1940’s the family moved to Whitby.

Florence worked as a ticket seller at the Brock Theatre in downtown Whitby and at the Whitby Post Office. In 1948 Florence married John (Jack) Kalar and were married for 65 years until “Johnny’s” passing in August, 2013.

Florence Is survived by her daughter, Jacquie, of Whitby and several nieces & nephews.

Florence is also predeceased by her sisters, Margaret (Floyd) Smith; Mary (Auston) McKay; Jean (Carl) Parise and her brother, George (Millie) Read. She is also predeceased by brothers & sisters-in-law, Dorothy & Frank Merchant, Frank & Shirley Kalar and Claire & Frank Irwin, as well as by nieces & nephews, Ronnie Smith, Jim McKay, Beth Parise, Donna (Parise) Treffers, Fran (Parise) Reid, Debbie Read and Stan Read.

Florence was a member of the Candy Bowling league for many years at the Whitby Bowling alley on Byron Street. Florence did volunteer work with the Whitby General Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke and she worked during many elections. Florence loved her flower gardens. She followed many sports along with Johnny.

Thank you to the staff at Fairview Lodge, in particular those who work on Trafalgar Square, where she has resided since 2019. We couldn’t have asked for a more caring environment.

Arrangements have been made at Mount Lawn, Garrard Road, Whitby, for Friday September 22, 2023. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. Internment and reception will occur immediately after the funeral.

Immensely proud Poppy to Kye and his partner Leanne, Liam, Kiera, Isabella, Josh, Jacob and Lily.

He is fondly remembered and forever loved by his many family and friends that will remember his smile and his quiet caring nature. Dedicated and proud press operator at the Toronto Star for over 35 years.

Even in his own difficult time, he continued to consider the needs of others, and offered comfort and encouragement. Throughout his life, Frank treated each day as an opportunity to help friends and family. Frank was always happiest at home with Bonnie or together with those he cherished.

Family and friends may visit OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West on Sunday August 13, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Frank’s life will be held in the Chapel Monday August 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
