It is with a collective heavy heart and sorrow that we must announce the passing of Sheryl Elaine Loucks, after a prolonged illness. Sheryl passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the age of 72.
She leaves behind her husband, Bill, loving mother to her sons Josh, his wife Hazel and son Jayden, and Rick, his wife Melanie and their children Brody and Kylie, as well her “special little guy”, her dog Cooper.
Sheryl came into this world a fighter. Born 3 months prematurely, she defied the odds and proved that she was a survivor. And that set the course for her life. She grew up in Toronto, with her two sisters, Marlene and Judy. She studied at both the University of Toronto and York University.
Sheryl met her husband, Bill, in 1973 and a year later they began a life journey that endured for the next 50 years. She found her place in office management and early childhood education, before founding her own business in Pet Care leading to her retirement in 2010. Her family was always the most important thing in her life and showed constant pride in both her sons, Josh and Rick and their own life accomplishments. She had unwavering support for her husband’s career, despite the demands of his job, often carrying the burden of family with strength and determination, but always with a positive attitude and a ready sense of humour. She also harboured a love of her dogs throughout her life, and will forever be embracing her beloved “Zeus” and “Sammy”.
Whenever her health took a downturn, she took it all in stride, proving every day the fighting spirit that still lived within her. She never stopped in her fight for survival, time and time again defeating the odds that stacked against her. To the very end, she still had a quip, or joke to dispense. She will forever be remembered for her endless fighting spirit, which was always highlighted with her extraordinary sense of humour, which will forever make her family smile.
Sheryl’s family will receive friends for visiting at the Ferguson Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m., followed by a service of interment at Lakeview Cemetery at 12 noon. All are welcome to gather in the Galleries at the Meaford Hall to Celebrate Sheryl’s Life from 1 until 3 p.m.
As your expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
