Father Christopher Rupert
Father Christopher, S.J. - (March 31, 1937 – October 16, 2019) - Of the Society of Jesus, died on October 16, 2019 in Supportive Care at the Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital.Born in Belleville, Ontario, he was the son of Thomas Harry Rupert and Regina Mary Harrison.He was 82 years old and a Jesuit for 60 years. He was ordained a priest in 1975.He received a doctoral degree in theology through the Toronto School of Theology at the University of Toronto.He taught at Wheeling Jesuit College in West Virginia and at Lakehead University. He designed formation courses for Deacons and laity in both the Hamilton and Toronto Dioceses.Fr. Rupert loved doing pastoral ministry and served with zeal in many parishes – St. Andrew’s (Thunder Bay), Holy Rosary (Guelph), St. Joseph the Worker (Oshawa), and Holy Spirit (Scarborough).Fr. Rupert also helped in many other parishes and was chaplain for the Knights of Columbus in Scarborough and in the Durham Region.He designed and personally cared for the grounds at the Manresa Renewal Center in Pickering.In June of 2019 he suffered a debilitating stroke which ended his pastoral ministry and his gardening.Fr. Rupert is much loved by his family, many friends and the Jesuits.On Sunday, October 20th from 7-9pm (with a Prayer Service at 8:00pm) friends may visit at St. Ignatius Chapel, Manresa Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre, 2325 Liverpool Road, Pickering, ON L1X 1V4.On Monday, October 21st at 11.00am a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the same chapel. Fay Winnifred Leonard
Fay Winnifred (MacDonald) - (1933 - 2019) - It is with great sadness that the family of Fay (MacDonald) Leonard announces her peaceful passing at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Sunday September 29th, 2019.It was a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer, one that she contended with tenacity, dignity and perseverance.Fay is survived by and fiercely loved by her devoted husband of 32 years, Eugene Leonard. She was cherished mother to Leslie (Christopher) Cuddy and Michael Luke. Loved deeply by her grandchildren Maggie, Jack and Sam.Predeceased, in 1977, by her first husband Brian Luke; Leslie & Michael’s father.Fay will be greatly missed by her sister Joan Quinn. Loved dearly by cousins & extended family from Haliburton, nieces, Vicki & Cindy, nephews, Scott & Ryan.Fay, retired General Motors employee, will be remembered fondly by many treasured lifelong friends and family members.Fay’s family would like to thank the supportive care team on the 4th floor F wing at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. We will forever cherish the compassion, care and kindness shown by all staff in this unit. Dear brother of Gerald of Port Perry. Dearly missed by his furball companion Sketchy.Fraser was a guitar teacher in Durham Region for nearly 40 years. He loved teaching people in the community. He loved fishing, cycling and the outdoor lifestyle. Fraser will be remembered for his witty humour, hearty laugh and infectious smile.
