Of Bowmanville, Ontario, died peacefully in his sleep on March 13, 2015 in his 88th year after a brave and extended battle with cancer.Ivan, born in England, served in the merchant navy during World War II before marrying the love of his life, Pauline Jean Bennett in 1946. They emigrated in 1953 to build a wonderful life in Canada for their six children, Jean, Christine, Janet, Pauline, John and Robert. He will be sorely missed by the family he has left behind, including his loving wife of 69 years, Pauline, who cared for him at home until the final days of his illness.His loving children will cherish memories of a wonderful life in Canada that dad made possible. Granddad will also be sorely missed by his adoring grandchildren, Michelle, Samantha, Adam, Daniel, Andrew and Rebecca, as well as his great-grandchildren, Charity, Aiden, Nathaniel and Benjamin. Service will be held in Newcastle on Monday, March 16th.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, an organization that Ivan has long supported.The family wishes to extend its gratitude to Lakeridge Health, Bowmanville for their tender care and support in Ivan’s final days.

Passed away at Ballycliffe Nursing Home with her daughter Heather and grandchildren Kevin and Cherie by her side. Irene was 92 years young and lived a full life.Her struggle over the past six months was not what she wanted and her wish came true on February 12, 2015 when she took her last breath and went peacefully onto her next journey with those she loved who passed before her, especially Sandra (daughter, 2012) and Bill (husband of 51 years, 1996).Her quick wit and sense of humour will be missed, but she will never be forgotten as she has left us with so many wonderful memories.Her wishes were to be cremated and have no funeral.Burial will be in the early summer and for immediate family only.Remember Irene with only smiles, and when you think of her that's all you want to do.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Tato, Dido and Pra-Dido, Iwan, who passed away suddenly in his 94th year.He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Maria, Doris (Daniel) and Irene (Jerry), his grandchildren, Melanie (Garfield) and Andrew, and his great-granddaughter, Julianna.He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Anna Chromej who passed away in 2002.Iwan was born in the Halychyna Region of Ukraine where he spent his youth working on farms and in a bakery. When WWII broke out, he was one of thousands of young people taken by the Germans to work as forced labour in the factories in Germany.Iwan came to Canada through the United Nations Relief Plan in 1948 to work in the Aluminum Factories of Northern Quebec. He moved his family to Oshawa in 1951 and worked in construction briefly before being hired on at General Motors where he worked for 32 years.Iwan was a self-educated man who loved reading. He was also a long-time member and supporter of St. George the Great Martyr Ukrainian Catholic Church and Dnipro Cultural Centre in Oshawa.
