Nancy passed away quickly and peacefully surrounded by three generations of her loved ones.
She was 94 years old and the loving wife of the late William “Bill” McCowan (2018) for over 66 years.
Beloved mother of Bruce (Beatriz), Barb Presunka (Rick) and Ruth Dobslaw (Rob).
Grandmother of Chris Presunka (Arghawan), Tanya Presunka (Chris Spencer), Alison and Sean Dobslaw.
Great grandmother of Zarin, Lia and William Presunka and Evie and Chloe Spencer. She was born on a farm in Scarborough in 1930 and grew up during the Great Depression, spending her formative years in Unionville.
The daughter of Jim and Nellie (Hall) Weir, she was the youngest of seven, and is pre-deceased by her brothers Neil, Jack, Blake and Ches and her sisters Peggy Lawrie and Ruth Pike.
Nancy cared for three children while working hard with Bill on their property in Pickering. She helped to build the McCowan Cottage on Brule Lake.
She would try her hand at anything, from sanding barn boards, to refinishing antiques to painting and wallpapering her home. Nancy loved to entertain and frequently opened her home, serving hearty homecooked meals complete with dessert. She was well-known for her pies!
She spent countless hours volunteering at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and the Audley United Church in Pickering. She was also dedicated to causes including Amnesty International and the Canadian Cancer Society.
She loved flowers and created beautiful gardens. She was an avid knitter, crocheter and rug hooker. Her crafts and tole paintings decorate many homes. She was not afraid to learn new skills, and continued crafting even at 94!
She enjoyed playing Scrabble and Uno with her family, attending euchre clubs with her friends, lawn bowling, and so much more. While living at The Court at Brooklin, she excelled at carpet bowling, playing (and winning a round) in her last week. She loved nothing more than spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their utmost thanks to Dr. McAllister and her palliative team, particularly Samara, the wonderful PSWs at MTMR and Home and Community Care Central East, and to her loving caregiver and friend Kim Murphy Rowatt.
Visitation will be held at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME in Ajax on June 7th, 5pm-8pm and at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church at 115 St. Andrew’s Road in Scarborough from 11am-12pm on June 8th. The funeral service will be at 12pm June 8th with reception to follow.

Noel, a vibrant individual who embraced life with gusto, he touched the hearts of everyone he met. His passion for BBQing extended beyond the grill, as he delighted in creating mouthwatering feasts for family and friends. Infusing every dish with love, he shared his love of feeding others with everyone he met.
Beyond the kitchen, Noel loved the outdoors. Pedaling through scenic trails on his bicycle, wind in his hair, he left his cares behind and always stopped for a rest by the lake. He encouraged others to enjoy Jehovah’s creation, emphasizing the beauty of nature. However, it was on the dance floor that Noel truly came alive. His quick feet always moved to the rhythm of joy and laughter.
Noel’s zest for life extended to camping trips and spontaneous road adventures with the family. As long as he had his family nearby he could stay on the road for hours sometimes all the way from Toronto to Mexico. He cherished the chats and the banter of friends and family during these journeys, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Noel will forever be remembered as a family man, a person full of life, always building others up with his positive attitude and good vibes. He danced through life, leaving footprints on all our hearts; He will be loved and missed until we see him again in the new system.
