Alphonse Pfoh

Alphonse Pfoh

Listed in

It is with heavy heart and teary eye that we announce the passing of Alphonse Pfoh, at Peace River Community Health Centre the morning of Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 89 years of age.

Alphonse was born in Dilke, Saskatchewan on 24th of April, 1935. His father moved the family to Waterhole where as the only and eldest son, began working the homestead.

Upon meeting Magdalena (Martha) Luken, Alphonse started down a new path and his position at St. Thomas More School as the school custodian in 1960.  He was well known throughout the school, community and church. While at STM, walking the halls Alphonse would regularly engage with students and staff, joking, playing and sometimes even chasing those that dared to tease him. Alphonse has since retired as custodian for both STM School and the church. He and his dearly departed, loving wife, Martha tirelessly volunteered at the STM church, within the community and the local food bank in retirement. Many in the community could attest to seeing Alphonse out in all kinds of weather clearing sidewalks in the winter or cutting the grass for the church or neighbors, all the time not seeking thanks or recognition.

As Alphonse slowed down over the past 2 years, he moved residence to the Fairview Harvest Lodge, where he became reacquainted with a number of his old primary school classmates. He spent his time at the Lodge focusing on the church and attending mass whenever his health would allow.

Alphonse is predeceased by his loving wife Martha; his parents, Mike & Eva Pfoh; siblings Margaret Bland and Clara Dewitt; and grandchild Travis Enns.

Alphonse is survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Luken of Fairview (AB); his children, Cindy Bellamy of Kelowna (BC), Connie Enns of Fairview (AB), Greg (Penny) Pfoh of Edmonton (AB), Hugh Pfoh (Marieka Vanderburg) of Calgary (AB), as well as five grandchildren, (Jasmine, Cody, Niki, Robyn, and Tyler), four great grandchildren and many god children, nieces and nephews.

As a father, grand-father, god-father, uncle, brother and friend Alphonse’s passing will leave a large void in many lives. He is already missed.
There will be a final viewing at Chapel of Memories, 10917-103 Ave, Thursday August 1, 2024 from 7:00PM-9:00PM where in honor of Alphonse a rosary will be recited.

Alphonse’s memory will be celebrated on Friday August 2, 2024 at 11:00AM from St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with graveside ceremony conducted at Friedenstal Catholic Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.

A reception will follow the graveside service at 1:00PM at the Dunvegan Inn, where water, juice, coffee and finger food will be served.

The family would like to thank Fr. Isidore Oneyka OMI and St. Thomas More Catholic Church.  Also, many thanks to all the staff and healthcare providers at the Fairview Harvest Lodge as well as the staff at Fairview Health Complex, and finally thanks to Chapel of Memories for providing the funeral services and support to the family.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Edna Campbell, a Long-time resident of Fairview, Alberta. Marion passed away peacefully, with her family by her side.

Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andy Campbell; her parents, Stanley and Ruth Rowe; her brothers, Ken and Archie Rowe; her sisters, Margaret Grant and Enid Adam; and her grandson, Scott Campbell.

Marion is survived by her sister, Edith Saskow; her daughter, Lynn Trahan (Darryl); her son, John Campbell (Linda); her daughter, Ruth Yallop (Ben); three grandchildren; grand daughter in law Diana Arends; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Marion's passion for farming was evident throughout her life. She began her farming journey working alongside her father before her marriage to Andy Campbell. Together, they continued the farming legacy, modeling hard work, dedication, determination, and resilience in the face of challenges, for future generations. Marion and Andy worked on the farm together until his passing, after which Marion worked alongside her
son, John. Marion reluctantly retired from farming around the age of 80 but stayed on the farm during the summers until she was 90, after which she moved to Garrison Manor and then to Harvest Lodge.

As a young girl, Marion rode to a one-room school at Waterhole for nine years, where she cared for younger students and ensured they were well-prepared for the ride home. Her nurturing nature extended to animals, including a pet crow that accompanied her to school and a sick piglet that she once shared her bed with to keep warm.

Marion was a talented artist, excelling in quilting, embroidery, hardanger, drawing, painting, pottery, china painting, and caribou tufting. Her creativity was a constant presence in her children's lives, as she would draw animals and other pictures for them to color. Marion had many hobbies and kept busy with her love for gardening, which was evident in her beautiful flower beds. She maintained close relationships with her
extended family and many friends. Marion was actively involved in numerous social activities, including bowling, bridge, the Green Island Coffee Group, the Fairview Fine Arts Center, and the Waterhole Old Timers Association. She also enjoyed bike riding and other active pursuits.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Further details will be announced at a future date.

Donations in memory of Marion Campbell may be made to the Palliative Care Program at the Fairview Health Complex, 10628 – 110 Street, Fairview, Alberta, T0H 1L0, or to Harvest Lodge, Recreation Program , Box 579, Fairview, Alberta, T0H 1L0.

Frank William Coghlin

Frank William Coghlin

If dad were writing this, he would say
“I was born, I lived, and I died.”
However, here is what we have to say.

Frank William Coghlin passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday, July 22nd, 2024.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Lucy Coghlin; his siblings and their spouses: Betty (Dalton) Griffiths, Dorothy (Cole) King, Irene Taylor, Harry Coghlin, and Barry Coghlin.  Frank is survived by his wife, Peggy; children: April (Todd) Esmond, Ralph Coghlin, Nancy (George) Gurney, Michael (Michelle) Coghlin, and Penny (Sean) Wilson; and grandchildren: Jade (Kyle) Wilk and Kale Esmond, Kevin Coghlin and Ken Gurney, Elora (Landon) Ferris, Joshua (Alyssa) and Isabelle Coghlin, Emily and Darby Wilson.  And we can’t forget his newest love, great-grand-daughter, Aleah Ferris.  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Ethel Coghlin and Marvel Coghlin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born May 24th, 1937, Frank grew up in Moose Jaw, SK.  After graduating, he lived and worked on a farm in Stony Beach, SK with his sister and brother-in-law.  He met Peggy Deschner in 1963 and the two got married in November of 1964.  He spent 29 years working at various towns as a grain buyer for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.  During the early years at Holdfast, Silton, and Estlin, SK, they expanded their family to five children.  In their move to Eyebrow, SK in 1979, Frank and Peggy found the community they knew they wanted to call home.  They became actively involved in various community groups and organizations.  Frank enjoyed curling in the winter and slow pitch in the summer.  Work continued to be a priority and Frank’s dedication to the farmers and his work ethic made him highly respected and liked by his customers.  In fact, Frank built the business enough that Eyebrow became one of the first wooden elevators in Saskatchewan to be a million-bushel point.  He would never have bragged about this, but it was a significant accomplishment for that time.  Peggy didn’t always appreciate Frank’s dedication to his job as you know farmers don’t keep regular work hours.  Late night suppers and altered weekend plans were a regular occurrence, especially during harvest.  Crop checking was another important activity, although we weren’t ever sure how they were able to do this after sunset!  Following his retirement, Frank and Peggy remained in Eyebrow.  They built a beautiful paradise in their yard, as anyone that ever came to visit them in the summer can attest to.  Being 87 years of age, Frank was lucky to be able to live in his own home independently right up to the end, even being able to mow his lawn in the week prior to his passing.

In public, Frank didn’t like to be the center of attention and never wanted a whole lot of fuss to be made over him.  He believed in honesty and integrity and if he gave you his word, that was as good as a written contract.  You would rarely ever hear him complain but the guys at coffee row might tell a different story.

Frank was a loving husband and father and although not openly showing affection in his words, he showered his family with love through all the projects that he laboured over in his woodworking shop.  Never using or needing a pattern, his handiwork sits proudly in each of our homes.

Frank’s teasing and playful nature made him loved and enjoyed by so many people in his community and extended family.  He enticed grandchildren with his mischievous antics and innocent grin.  No one had more fun than when they were with grandpa!

The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care Frank received in his brief hospital stay at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.  Special thanks to Aleah and Delaney for getting us through his last day and to Dr. Awan for your honesty and compassion.  Thanks also to Darlene, the manager at the Moose Jaw Holiday Inn and Suites for your helpfulness and kindness.

“‘Til we see you again dad…just say YES!”

A Celebration of Frank’s Life will be held at a come-and-go tea on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 at the Eyebrow Community Hall from 2 – 4:30 pm.  The family asks that you bring your favourite memory of Frank or write it on the cards that will be provided.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Frank’s name to the charity of your choice.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Gary McDowell, Funeral Director 306-693-4550

Basil was born on his mother’s birthday at the family farm near Eyebrow, Saskatchewan, on September 27th, 1935.  He married Yvonne Benson on May 31st, 1957, at Eyebrow.  A year later, they were blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Bev, followed by 3 more children, Randy, Judy, and Kevin.

Basil loved working on the family farm but quickly learned that he needed to supplement his income.  In 1964, he learned to operate heavy equipment when he took a job constructing the Qu’Appelle Dam.  Between working on heavy equipment in various municipalities and a brief stint as a truck driver, he moved his family from Eyebrow to Avonlea, to Assiniboia, SK before settling in the Weyburn, SK area in 1971.

Basil worked for the City of Weyburn until his retirement in 1995.  Upon retirement, Basil returned to Eyebrow with the goal of farming full time but soon found himself working for the Village of Eyebrow for nearly 20 years.  Shortly after his retirement from the Village of Eyebrow, Basil and Yvonne moved to Griffin, SK to be closer to family.

Although he worked hard, Basil always had time for family and friends.  He particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his many pets, including his beloved dog, Buddy.

Basil’s calming influence and quiet humour will be missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Basil’s Life will be held on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home.  Interment will take place in Eyebrow Cemetery.  Those not able to attend may view the service by going to www.moosejawfuneralhome.com/webcast/.  Donations in memory of Basil may be made to Weyburn Special Care Home, 704 – 5th Street NE, Weyburn, SK S4H 1A3.  Arrangements are entrusted to Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane.  Cara Ashworth Funeral Director 306-693-4550
