Michael David Hardy

Michael David Hardy

Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Wednesday April 17th, 2024 at the age of 53 after a battle with cancer.
Dear and loving husband of Tamara. Much loved Son of David and Margaret Hardy and brother of Elaine Hardy and her husband Paul Lowes. Mike will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Michael was a fun-loving, sociable and generous person who made friends wherever he went. He attended Centennial College to train for tool and die work, and thereafter always had a job at which he worked hard, becoming a well-regarded tradesman at Ball Packaging.
He was happily married to Tamara, the love of his life, for 25 years. Together, they lived life to the fullest, enjoying many good times with family and their many friends. Mike’s marriage to Tamara opened up a new world for him as they travelled to Tamara’s birthplace, Iran, as well as to Egypt, Las Vegas and many times to Niagara Falls.
Mike loved the family cottage where he and Tamara hosted wonderful gatherings of family and friends. He loved to hang out in the garage with the guys sharing drinks and smokes after ATV expeditions in the surrounding forest. In winter the same joy resulted from snowmobiling on the lake and trails. Duck hunting at an annual “boy’s weekend” with cousins and friends at Lake Nipissing was also a tradition that Mike treasured.
He brought so much joy to his parents and family throughout his life, and his passing will leave a great void in our lives, and in the lives of all that he touched.

Dennis Jun Sakamoto

Dennis Jun Sakamoto

Listed in

Dennis Jun Sakamoto, of Whitby, ON, passed away peacefully on April 18 at home, after enjoying an exceptional life (81 years) with a loving family and some wonderful friends.
He lived a full life as a successful entrepreneur and pursued his hobbies with as much enthusiasm as his business ventures. He loved to sail and while he wanted to be captain, Carol insisted he was the best crew. To ensure his position at the helm, he moved on to an offshore race boat where he fell in love with speed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a fun family activity and he moved on to cars. Joining several car clubs, he enjoyed the social activities with Carol, and encouraged Justin and Stephen to join him on the track. Weather permitting, he could often be found at Mosport driving and instructing for numerous car clubs or fulfilling a child’s wish for a ride in a fast car. If not at Mosport, he might be found entertaining the local kids with rides through the neighborhood or playing road hockey, honing his skills to take on the NHL-quality hockey of the Fun Homies hockey league. After some on-ice antics the team would head to the local pub where he’d insist on the kitchen staff producing off menu items or flats only wings.
He passed on his love of competition to his three grandchildren, hosting plasma car races in the basement and encouraging them to run each other and their grandmother off the go-kart track. He was always on board for anything they wanted to do, doting on their every wish.
Although Denis was a quiet, quirky and often stubborn man that lived life on his own terms, his kindness, generosity and empathy touched all that had the pleasure to know him. He will be greatly missed by his wife Carol, sons Justin (Jen), Stephen (Andrea) and grandchildren, Amelia, Nicholas and Sam. He is survived by his siblings Bob and Geri Sakamoto of Montreal, his sister in-law Teri (Stephen) and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by the many family, friends and neighbors whose lives and hearts he touched.
At his insistence, the family will not be having a service at this time. An open invitation to our home is extended to anyone who would like to drop in for a visit and to share stories about Dennis.
