She will be missed by her devoted husband Jim.Irene leaves her two sons Robert Johnstone and his wife Jane of Port Dover and Ronald Johnstone of Oshawa and her two granddaughters Jennifer and Christine and great grandsons Malcolm and Ronald.She is also survived by her sister Gladys (Pat) Steele and her nieces Susan Sokay and her husband Ed, Janice Steele and her husband John Donko and Lee-ann Steele.As requested by Irene, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, Oshawa on Wednesday, January 4th, 2017. Visitation will begin at 1 pm followed at 2 pm by the memorial service.Donations in remembrance may be made to the Parkinson Society of Canada or the Humane Society of Durham Region.

She will be missed by her son, Daniel, her daughter-in-law, Temie, her grandsons, Christopher and Bryndon, and others whose life she touched. The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Salvation Army's Toronto Grace Health Care Centre, who provided the critical care and comfort she needed during her final months. There will be a small gathering of close friends and relatives at the Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens in Ajax, at 2 pm on Monday, December 12, before she is inurned to her final resting place.
