He was born on the 7th of June 1947 in Mitcham, England to Albert and Annie Selina Darby.

Known for his mischievous humour, he loved traveling the world. A career Travel Agent, he was responsible for modernizing systems and enabling travel plans for thousands of clients.

He loved birdwatching and chasing away squirrels and he especially loved the redwing black bird that came often to see him.

John is survived by his wife Linda, children Michelle and Christopher, grandchildren Leo and Oliver and sister Jan. A private family service will be held to Celebrate the life of John.

Passed away peacefully in her sleep with family at her side on Wednesday May 8th at the age of 84.

Joanne will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 63 years, Stanley Scruton, her son, Mark Scruton (Peggy), her daughter, Lara Knape (Jim), her three grandchildren, Bryar, Kyra and Justine, as well as her sister, Lois Seaman and niece, Pam Keppie.

Joanne will be remembered for her kind heart, generous nature, competitive spirit, witty sense of humour, and her love of her family and friends, especially her cherished grandchildren.

Joanne had many talents, hobbies and interests, and was successful at whatever she set her mind to, including an accomplished career with Bell Canada of more than 30 years.

Joanne was also very active within her community and regularly volunteered at the local foodbank to help those in need.

Most importantly, Joanne will be remembered for how she made a positive impact in the lives of everyone around her, filling our hearts with love, laughter and joy!

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Douglas Crossing for their compassionate care and kindness. Cremation. A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held in Uxbridge and Wasaga Beach at a later date

Passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 7th, at Ross Memorial Hospital.

She was comforted by a friend while listening to lovely music with her favourite blanket nearby.

June was predeceased by her husband John.

They had 64 years of a wonderful loving marriage. She will be missed by their children Doug (Buffy), Caroline (Jason) and their grandchildren Lauren (Aaron), Erin, and Olivia.

She was a loving aunt to 3 generations of nieces and nephews and got such joy from having visits with her recent great-grandson, Wyatt. June was born in Toronto and was so proud to be a Bridgman.

She loved her big brothers Don and Bob (deceased). She learned the way of retail by helping in her father’s jewellery and gift store in Toronto and that served her well when she found part time jobs when they moved to Sunderland. She met John at a very young age as her father was John’s Scout leader and they both attended the same church (St. James Bond United).

They married May 24th, 1957 in Toronto and made the move to Sunderland for a quieter life in 1977.

June lived a life of taking care of others, her father and mother, mother-in-law and her “Johnny”.

She helped John with his newspaper, The Sunderland News Reporter, and printing business.

She especially enjoyed volunteering with the UCW at Sunderland United Church and Eastern Star. She loved being involved with the wonderful community and made great friends with so many while doing so.

June spent her last few years at Lakeland Village in Lindsay.

We are grateful to the staff at Lakeland for helping with all her health needs. In addition, we are grateful to The Purple House and Silver Lights for providing care and fellowship.

June desperately missed John and only wanted to be with him again. You will be missed by us here, but so blessed to know you are with your Johnny again.

The family will be making arrangements for a small graveside service in the next few months.

Johanna Maria Van Blokland, 93, of Bowmanville, Ontario, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024.

Johanna was born on November 19, 1930, to Bartholomeus Busker and Anna Daalhuizen in Breukelen, Netherlands, where she lived until 1952, when the Busker siblings moved to Canada together with their young families in tow.

Due to the German occupation of Holland during World War II, Johanna attended a school run by nuns who taught a slanted curriculum, unlike her older sisters who had more traditional schooling. She finished eighth grade and went on to complete training for office work.

In 1948, while employed at a dairy laboratory, she met Johannes (Jan) Van Blokland. Jan became a border in her family’s home, and their romanced blossomed. She and Jan married on October 25, 1950. A few months after Tina was born, Jan and Johanna moved to Canada, where Nancy and Joanne were born.

After Jan retired in the mid-80s, he and Johanna spent their time travelling together, particularly to Hawaii and once to Cuba. In the years after Jan’s death, Johanna enjoyed shopping, reading, going to the casino, and spending time with family.

Johanna is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Tina and Ron Keys, Nancy and Steve Goodchild, and Joanne and Wes Crozier; her five grandchildren, Stephen and Leah Keys and Elise, Maddy, and Renee Crozier; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Emma Keys.

Services will be held at McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME in Ajax (Pickering Village) on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

José married Deolinda Domingues on September 11th, 1971 in Canada and had two children Anita and Pedro (Launi).

Beloved grandfather to Ethan, Logan, Eva, Aryia and Gracie.

José loved his family and enjoyed making everyone laugh with his funny faces and stories.

He enjoyed the simple things in life and making wine was his favorite thing to do.

After suffering with Alzheimer's and dementia for several years, José passed away on Sunday May 5th, 2024 with family by his side.

He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.

We will cherish his memories forever.

June was predeceased by her brother Harold Allan Page and sister Margaret Woolings. June was adored by her three sons Larry (Marian), Brent (Donna) and Craig.

Grandmother lovingly remembered as “Nanny” to her three granddaughters Tanya Read, Ashlie Read (Austin Gordon), Courtney Read (Connor MacVarish), great grandmother to Zoe Read (Jonathan Blais) and Ava Read, and great-great grandmother to Dezmond Blais.

June will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews. June was a strong, loving, and independent woman who still drove and lived on her own. She was bound and determined to do things on her terms, which until the end she did.

Visitation will be held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, Port Perry on Monday, May 13th from 1:00-2:00pm. A service to celebrate her beautiful life will be held in the chapel at 2:00pm.

Cherished uncle of Peter, the late Fredrik, Johannes, David and Andreas. John will be sadly missed by his sisters in law and brothers in law, Cathy (Hans-predeceased), Sandra, Jimmy (Stephanie) and Patrick (Jacqueline).

Predeceased by his sister in law Brenda and his stepbrother Kurt. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, his many friends, neighbours and coworkers. John was a very devoted husband and father. He loved his dogs Sadie and Ginger, as well as his grand furbaby Nova.

John was a dedicated sports fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage as anyone who shared a meal at his house knows when John had them try his Lingonberry sauce. He was very involved with his children’s activities, especially Collin’s hockey.

He welcomed his son-in-law and daughter-in-law as his own children.

He truly was a man who put his family first. He will be sadly missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Visitation will be held at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West on Friday May 10th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday May 11th at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow.
