Passed away peacefully with her beloved wife Judith MacDougall and best friend Louise Durand at her side on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the age of 68 years.
Valerie also leaves behind the light of her life, her son Terry James O’Grady, a cherished godson Remy Mancuso, remaining sisters Lorraine (Norm) and Carol (George) and her border collie baby Daisy Mae.
Predeceased by sisters Rose (Bill), Helen (Keith) and brother Tom (Norma). Daughter of the late Gertie Therian and Clare Sargent.
Valerie’s professional accomplishments were far ranging and impactful including executive culinary cuisine, healthcare leadership, women’s advocacy and environmental activism formally recognized at a national level.
Simply put, Valerie changed our world for the better.
There are no words to describe the loss felt by Valerie’s passing.
Valerie loved fiercely and anyone fortunate enough to be a recipient of that love understands the depth of that loss felt today. So many selfless acts of love for family, friends and simply those in need inspired Valerie’s reason for rising each day.
Her final wish was for each person in her life, family and close friends to know how much she loved them, how fiercely she loved you.
Best reflected in Valerie and Judy’s wedding song:
The Power of Two by The Indigo Girls
So we’re okay We’re fine
Baby I’m here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
I’m stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
We’ll look at them together then we’ll take them apart
Adding up the total of a love that’s true
Multiply life by the power of two
A gathering to celebrate Valerie’s impact on all of us will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME 847 King St. W. (905-721-1234).
