March 6, 1934 to January 27, 2019Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.Vlado was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 56 years Miroslava (Mira), a loving father to Drazen (Maria), Mark (Rosanne), and Katarina (Christopher), and a lovely and caring Dido to Alexandra, Laura, Josephine, Kaitlyn, Luka, and Isla.Vlado was a humble, quiet, gentle man with a sharp wit and sparkly deep brown eyes.He enjoyed reading, puzzles, and a good laugh - particularly where puns were involved - and was a master of 'dad jokes'.He appreciated good food and drink, especially beer!He loved travelling to beaches and trips home to Croatia.Vlado had two brothers and he grew up in Osijek, Croatia.He moved to a small city near Zagreb when he married Mira in 1962.Vlado worked as an electrical engineer, and in 1974 the family, which by then included two young boys, arrived in Canada in 1974 with some suitcases and not much else. The young family settled in Scarborough where they welcomed a daughter. Vlado continued working as an engineer and the family moved to Markham, and then Mira and Vlado eventually moved to Whitby.Vlado was a trailblazer, wonderful soul and a beautiful man. Passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday December 22nd 2018 at the age of 68.Much loved wife of John for 44 years.Loving and most cherished mother of Michael Piggott of Toronto, Katherine Babony and her husband Mark of Burlington, dear grandmother of Tristan, Jacob, AJ and Christian. Loving daughter of Peggy and the late Albert Bernardo, dear sister of Linda VanVeen and her husband Jack and Tony Bernardo and his wife Lori.Vicky will be fondly remembered by many close friends, nieces and nephews.Vicky was a fighter since birth, born 12 weeks early at only 2.6lbs. At age 3 Dr. Mustard of the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children successfully performed a patenductus on Vicky– a revolutionaryopen-heart surgery. In her final years, the doctors marvelled at how strong she was, beating 6 reoccurrences of cancer over 5 years. She had a loving and happy childhood.As a mother, she taught us how to love life and take care of oneanother. Her husband was always by her side, steadfast in his love and care. Vicky proudly proclaimed that her life was well lived. She was not ready to leave us, and we were not ready to let her go.A reception celebrating her life will be held at BARNES MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 5295 Thickson Rd. N. We are saddened by the recent loss of Isabelle Veronique (Veronica) Shaw – nee deVillers (1926-2018), on Sunday, November 18, 2018.She passed away peacefully in the early morning in Ballycliffe Nursing Home, at the age of 92. She is survived by her two sons, James Bernard Shaw (Michelle) and Gregory Alan Shaw (Kathy), and her only grandson, James Owen Shaw.She was born in North Bay and was one of 14 children.Veronica led a long and happy life, and she enjoyed the simple things. She was married to the late Orville Shaw for 32 years.Veronica was recognized for her love of family, and for her incredible sense of humor.She enjoyed her weekly visits from her two boys. We will miss her dearly. A private family mass and gathering will be held in her memory.
