Katherine Kelemen

Katherine Kelemen

Listed in

(Katalin in Hungarian) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday August 14, 2021 at the age of 97.

Katalin is survived by her children Agnes Neu and her husband Joseph, Cathy Kelemen and George Mohacsi and his wife Lorraine Brunswick.

Katalin loved her four grandchildren Michael Neu, Karen Neu Wideman and her husband Jeremy, David Mohacsi and his wife Candice and Jonathan Mohacsi, as well as her five great grandchildren Alecia, Olivia and Hailey Neu, and Keira and Sam Wideman.

The family is very grateful for the care she received at the Markhaven Home for Seniors in Markham. Agnes has been the best daughter anyone could hope for and lovingly visited her mother and was a tremendous caregiver to her.

Katalin had a difficult life from the war years in Hungary where she grew up in an agricultural community, to becoming an immigrant after the war. She and her husband George Mohacsi worked hard to establish themselves in Canada, a new country and with a new language.

Sadly, George died of a stroke at the age of 48 leaving Katalin a young widow. She met Janos Kelemen a few years later who was also widowed. They married and lived happily until he passed away shortly after he retired.

Katalin lived alone in her Scarborough house until she decided to move to a condo apartment closer to her daughter Agnes.

A few years later she opted to move to a retirement home and then after a series of small strokes she went into long term care. Her last year and a half was especially difficult for all because of Covid restrictions.

She leaves behind an adoring family who will be forever thankful for the person she was.
