Bessie Mae Pike

Listed in

We lost Bessie on Wednesday February 16th, 2022, at the age of 77.

Though her final months were impaired by a sharp decline in both physical and cognitive health, Bessie will remain always in our memories as the loving and devoted Mom who raised us.

Sorely missed will be the woman who showed her love most through the time and care she devoted to others, whether patiently making our birthday cakes and Halloween costumes, or volunteering her time and talents to an event or charity.

Mom was always at her best in a crowd, ever ready to regale us with one of her many anecdotes about her youthful adventures in Newfoundland.

We hope all who knew her will cherish those happy stories and memories as the legacy of a good woman who left us far too soon.

Beloved Mom of David Pike of Mount Pearl NL, Dennis Pike (Kristine Lachapelle) of Newmarket, Melissa Lynette Pike of Ottawa and Melinda Owen (Geoffrey) of Ajax.

Devoted Nana to Liam, Emily, Katherine and Elizabeth. Predeceased by husband Angus, siblings Katie, Dorothy, Wilhelmina, Irene, and Gordon. Survived by brother Edwin Sheppard (Nellie), brother-in-law Garland Pike (Gladys), sisters-in-law Mabel Sheppard, Violet Quinton, and Shirley Fry.

Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and friends.

No service will be held at this time, as Mom’s remains will be returned to Newfoundland to be interred in Champney’s East where she was born.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Bessie’s preferred charity the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. https://cancer.ca/en/

Bonnie Lee Hambleton

Bonnie Lee Hambleton

Listed in

April 8, 1949 – February 16, 2022

Peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on February 16, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer.

Beloved daughter of Gwendolyn and the late Charles Arthur ‘Art’ Pesheau.

Loving wife of William Courtland Hambleton and devoted mother to Jessica (Drew).

Adored grandmother to William. Dear sister to Charles ‘Chuck’ (Susy) and Brian (Robin).

Bonnie will be remembered fondly by her extended family and friends.

Bonnie was an extremely thoughtful and loving person who was generous with her time and friendship.

She was always willing to help others, even those she did not know.

She was a strong force who always accomplished what she set her mind to with an affinity for overcoming challenges that she was expected to fail.

She was proud to be a university graduate during a time when so few women were encouraged to enroll.

It allowed her to become an exceptional and dedicated teacher, a job she loved even after she retired. However, the job she loved the most began in 2016 with the birth of her grandson, William.

She was overjoyed to be a grandmother and through her love and attention, easily solidified herself as William’s best friend.

The time they spent together will be cherished.

She will be remembered as a strong and beautiful mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, and personal support workers who helped Bonnie after her cancer diagnosis, and allowed her to stay home comfortably (Lakeridge Health, SE Health, Paramed, and Nurses Next Door).

An additional thank you to the many friends and family who provided comfort and support to Bonnie and her family during this time. At Bonnie’s request, a service will not be held.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hospital for Sick Children.

Barbara “Joan” Weir was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully on February 12, 2022, at the age of 81.

She was born to Peter and Mary Bodak on November 28, 1940.

After graduating high school, Joan chased her dreams, first pursuing a career in nursing and then as a draftsperson at Bell Canada, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Malcolm, with who she shared more than 50 years of love, compassion, and memories.

“Big Mal” sadly passed in 2017, but Joan never missed an opportunity to share a memory, a laugh, or a story every chance she got. They truly were an incomparable couple.
