January 2, 1967 – January 9, 2022
Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Oshawa on Sunday January 9th, 2022 at the young age of 55.
Brian was surrounded by the deep love of his wife Toni, his nephew Billy and his niece Laura Nicholson.
He bravely faced serious health ailments over the past seven years with strength and humility.
Brian was born in Ottawa, Ontario on January 2nd, 1967 and later raised in Summerside, PEI.
He moved to Pickering, ON in the spring of 1991 to start a new life.
He eventually moved to Whitby, ON when he married his best friend Antonietta (Toni) on July 20th, 2002.
Son of Claude and the late Emma (Schurman) Waugh of Summerside, PEI.
Brian was predeceased by his loving sister Bev and brother-in-law Bill Nicholson of Pickering, ON.
He is survived by his brother Randy (Judy) of Summerside, PEI.
Devoted and loving uncle to Billy (Laura) and Jeremy Nicholson of Whitby as well as Travis and Colton Waugh of Summerside, PEI. Fun-loving great-uncle of Tenley Dianne Nicholson.
Loving and devoted son-in-law to the late Gina (Benacquista) Conflitti. He will be sadly missed by his many cousins, surviving aunts and uncles from both the Waugh and Schurman families of Summerside, PEI.
Brian was a loving, gentle soul of a man who worked hard to create a beautiful life with Toni first at Canadian Tire for over 13 years and then worked another 10 years at Tremco Manufacturing.
He was predeceased by his loving cats: Mink, Snickers and Roxy. He was well loved by his surviving brown male tabby cat Hazey whom was rescued in 2017. November 2014 marked a drastic and serious change in Brian’s health.
He miraculously survived lifesaving open heart surgery that lasted a whopping 15.5 hours.
He and Toni were very appreciative for the second lease on life because of this surgery performed by Dr. Edward Hickey and his team from Sick Kids Hospital.
Sadly, Brian had experienced other serious health issues over the next seven years with humility and great bravery. However, it became too overwhelming and painful for him as the year 2021 was coming to a close.
In lieu of flowers during this time of COVID-19, donations can be made in Brian’s name to the Hospital for Sick Children, the wonderful hospital that cared for him at the age of 5 with his first open heart surgery, the Humane Society of Durham because of his love for animals especially cats and to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation for whom Brian participated in curling bonspiels for a few years (2008-2012) in efforts to raise money to purchase life-saving equipment for premature and critically ill babies in Canada.
Arrangements have been made for a celebration of life entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street W., Oshawa.

Barbara Mingilas, age 87, passed away on December 16, 2021, at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
She was born to George and Ruth French in Liverpool, England on May 3, 1934.
At the age of 21, Barbara left England for Canada, where she met her now late husband Joseph Mingilas.
Together they had one daughter, Shelley, and two grandchildren, Timothy and Brittany, who affectionately called her Nooners.
Though far in distance, she stayed close with her family in England, holding special relationships with her sister Hilary, nephew David and nieces Helen and Carolyn.
A vibrant soul who brought everyone into her circle, Barbara was loved by family and life-long friends, some from childhood, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Barbara had a quick wit and a sharp mind, and embraced a passion for travel and new experiences.
She was a voracious reader, and a self-proclaimed terrible baker. She lived life with an open-door policy; all were welcome, human and animal alike, and were greeted with open arms and a cup of tea (or a treat for the animal friends).
There will be no public viewing as the family will celebrate her life privately, where her ashes will be spread at one of her favourite places – by the red tree on the glade.
Barbara was a long-time supporter of Michael Garron Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the hospital that took excellent care of the family throughout the years

Adored mother of Tony Miller, Michele and her husband Robert Clauser, Terry Miller, Maria and her husband Tim Carey.
Gramma will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Christian Clauser, Victoria Bugera, Skye Jackson, Joshua Clauser, Matthew Clauser, Savannah Clauser, and her special little girl Autumn.
Cherished sister of Grace (Maurice) McInnis, Russell (Junior) Smith, Sheron Minard, Ivan (Kathy) Smith, Cecil (Margie) Smith, Janett (Chris) Knowles, Andy (Bonnie) Smith, and Luke Smith.
Much loved Aunt and Great-Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her father Russell Smith, her mother Christina Mae Smith (McEachern), her brother Roger Smith, her brother-in-law Dan Minard, and her sister-in-law Debbie Smith.
She too was an inspiring beautiful Mother and Gramma in their eyes and that’s all that ever truly mattered to her. Barbara will now forever be our guardian angel as we continue our journey without her.
The family would like to say a special thank you to her sister Sheron for all the love and dedication she provided Barbara throughout her illness, her sister Janett for providing us with much needed support and guidance, and to Emil Vrecic for lending a helping hand whenever it was needed.
There will be no visitation or service at Barbara’s request. A celebration of life and interment of her ashes at her late husband’s gravesite will take place in spring 2022. The family will forward family and friends the date/time/place once known.
May 19, 1936 – December 6, 2021
Beloved father and husband passed away in his 85th year in Oshawa on December 6, 2021.
Baldev is survived by his wife, Linda Pal, daughter, Anita Pal and son-in-law Richard Savage; son, Suneal Pal and daughter-in-law Angie Pal; and son Arun Pal and daughter-in-law, Nichola Baburam.
Baldev will be missed by grandchildren Gregory, Kevin, Cameron, Ethan, Shelby, Evan, Arjun, Avarie, Baldev is also survived by his sister Sunita Kumar, brother-in-law Prem Kumar, nephew Anil Kumar and Kartika Kumar, and family.
Baldev (Dave) graduated from mechanical engineering in India in 1961.
Two years afterwards he completed his apprenticeship in Colchester, England and later that year he married Linda and they spent time between England and India until the family immigrated to Canada in 1970.
By the time they came to Canada they were not alone, as Anita (6), Suneal (3) and Arun (1) were in tow and made sure Baldev and Linda’s lives were a bit more exciting. Baldev (Dave) worked for Teledyne/BTI in Thornbury, Ontario from 1971 until 2004.
He started his career at Teledyne as a mechanical engineer but spent the majority of his time as the Vice President and President. He retired in 2004, however the word “retirement'' was not really applicable as he continued in a consulting role at BTI until his mid 70s.
When fully retired he transferred his work passions into playing bridge and being in bridge clubs, taking care of his family and the grandkids and his beloved wife Linda.
It must be mentioned that he became an expert researcher in the areas of nutrition, health and holistic medicine and he was eager to share this with his family and friends even at 12:00am in the morning.
He worked tirelessly for those around him and under him.
For his children he was always there, for those that worked under him he was devoted to supporting their careers.
Even after retiring he continuously worked on behalf of his former colleagues by helping them navigate the uncertainty in the market and challenging economics at that time.
Even though Baldev had to make long trips and travel around the world for work, there were so many amazing memories for his family with him.
There was weekly badminton at the local elementary school, golfing at the Talismen Resort, the Saturday night ritual of Hockey Night in Canada, more CD release parties for Arun and Suneal than could be counted (even that time Baldev attempted to sell concert tickets to the whole of Thornbury!) for Linda’s 70th birthday, many graduations and many birthdays for the kids and grandkids.
Baldev even attended the kids hockey games directly after stepping off many long flights.
Baldev has always been referred to as a very warm, gentle and caring soul.
He gave continuously to numerous charities (including his children and their endeavours).
He left a legacy for his children to work hard.
Services will be held on Sunday, December 12th at 4pm at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 4 pm on the 12th.
Due to limited capacity, if you would like to attend in person please contact the family in advance. Covid protocols are being followed.
