"Alzheimer’s Prayer
Please grant my visitors tolerance
for my confusion,
Forgiveness for my irrationality
and the strength
To walk with me into the mist of memory
My world has become.
Please let them take my hand and stay awhile,
Even though I seem unaware of their presence.
Help them to know how their strength
And loving care will drift slowly
Into the days to come just when I need it most.
Let them know when I don’t recognize them
That I will. . . I will.
Keep their hearts free from sorrow for me,
For my sorrow, when it comes,
Only lasts a moment, then it’s gone.
And finally, please let them know,
How very much their visits mean,
How even through this relentless mystery,
I can still feel their love."

Marlene Frances Kirk passed away on September 14, 2024 at the age of 79 surrounded by her family at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Marlene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Walter. She will be dearly missed by her son Rob, her daughters Teresa (Brent) and Patricia (Brian), her grandchildren Amber (Tom), Claire, Lauren, Benjamin and Oliver and her great grandson Oliver.

Marlene was born January 26, 1945 to the late Jack and Kathleen McAdam. She was the eldest of 4 children and is survived by her siblings Jackie (Don), Brian (Helga) and John (Maria).

Marlene was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario. She dedicated many years to being a stay-at-home mom and could be counted on to volunteer her time in the school, at St.Gertrude’s Church and within the community. She did everything with passion and with the goal of perfection. She later returned to work outside of the home and spent many years bringing that same level of commitment and precision to her role as a receptionist in law offices.

Following her retirement, Marlene eagerly took on the role of grandma. She adored the time she spent with all of her grandchildren. She often said that her grandchildren are like her heart walking around the Earth. When she wasn’t spoiling her grandchildren, Marlene and Walt spent many years traveling around Europe and Alaska.

Her family said their final farewells at a private service at St. Gertrude’s Church on September 20, 2024. She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation be made in her memory.

"She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings."

BRYANS, Jerry Bryans - October 9th, 1953 - September 21st, 2024

Passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday 21 September 2024, at the age of 70.

Loved husband and best friend of Debbie Bryans for 50 wonderful years. Proud Father of Teri Ann and Christopher and his partner Shannon. Devoted son of Jean Bryans and the late Bill; cherished brother of Jeanie Wilkinson (Wayne), Donnie Bryans (Colleen), Bonnie Martin and Jim Bryans (Suzanne). Pre-deceased by brother Roly, who is survived by his wife Rowena. Jerry will be missed by numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends and colleagues.

Born and raised in Smiths Falls, Ontario, Jerry spent his adult life raising his children in Oshawa, Eden Mills and Brooklin Ontario, before retiring with Debbie in Bobcaygeon to his dream property, Twin Bear Farms. After graduating from Trent University with a Bachelor of Science degree, his career carried him through the ranks of General Motors on staff for thirty-two years. Driven by an unremitting work ethic and love of country life, Jerry ‘retired’ into two subsequent careers, embracing challenges in real estate with Royal LePage Kawartha Lakes and running a cow-calf operation for fifteen years.

A man of broad interests, Jerry spent many years researching his family’s genealogy, hunting and fishing with friends, golfing, wood carving and capturing life’s moments through amateur photography. He was an active member of the Victoria Cattleman’s Association, the Bobcaygeon Chamber of Commerce, the Bobcaygeon Curling Club, the Bobcaygeon Agricultural Society and avid supporter of local events.

Jerry’s travels took him from the Caribbean islands with friends and onto many European adventures including the Bryans ancestral homeland of Ireland. With his life-long travel partner Debbie, he ventured to the pyramids in Egypt, on safari in South Africa, as well as to the Great Wall of China. Closer to home, his love of country music took him to the Grand Ole Opry with his closest life-long friends.

From humble beginnings, Jerry was known most for his love and dedication in taking care of his family and friends. His humour, colourful expressions and enthusiasm for hard work left an unforgettable impression on all who knew him. His heart and pride lay always with his wife and children as well as their home at Twin Bear Farms.

Relieved that his pain and suffering has now ceased, his family is grateful for every moment they shared with him and miss him dearly. He is now reunited with his father, Irish twin and faithful companions Harley and Dakota.

He is missed beyond words but will be Forever in Our Hearts.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 1st at 11:00am up until the time of service at 12:30pm at Barnes Memorial Funeral Home, 5295 Thickson Road North, Whitby, ON.

The family is grateful for all of the care and support given to Jerry by the Peterborough Regional Cancer Centre and the Palliative Care Community Team at Community Care, City of Kawartha Lakes.
