It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mark Jurychuk on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

He leaves behind his devoted wife Helen, daughter Christine, sister-in-law Vera (David) and family and many valued friends. He was predeceased by his parents Barbara and Thaddeus Jurychuk.

Mark was born and raised in Toronto and attended high school at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora, Ontario. He studied at the University of Toronto and later attained an Executive MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Mark’s career began in advertising in the publishing field and continued in senior sales and marketing positions at Dupont Canada and Invista. His work allowed him to travel internationally where he enjoyed meeting people, learning about their culture and developing an appetite for adventurous cuisines.

Mark met his wife Helen in Toronto; they married in 1977 and had one loving daughter, Christine.

Mark was a devoted and doting father to Christine. He took up marathon running and ran the first of many marathons, on his daughter’s first birthday – he wanted to be healthy to be an active part of her life. They spent many weekends together snowboarding, biking and then unwinding by watching old movies.

Mark pursued his many interests and hobbies with passion and intensity. He enjoyed sailing and photography. He was a voracious reader with a curiosity to always learn more. He researched until he knew something well and was eager to share that knowledge.

Our thanks to the staff and caregivers at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre for many years of care. And a special thank you to our family and cherished friends who have been there for us during this time.

Predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Mate Rukavina (2015). Cherished and devoted mother to Ana (Jure Murgić) and Milan (Christine Whitmore). Proud grandmother of Kathy (Joe Bandula), Michael Murgić (Jelena), Matthew and Tomislav Rukavina and step-grandmother to Christopher and Carmen Kruk. Milka was blessed and grateful for her 5 great-grandchildren, Christian and Petra Bandula, Maja, Thea and Nika Murgić. Loving aunt of Jure and Mary Novačić and their family. Devoted cousin to Mary and Joe Hajer with family, and Katie Ballantyne with family. Milka was predeceased by her Father, Pajo and Mother, Jela (nee Bušljeta) and brother, Jurica and sister, Matija. Milka leaves behind her sister, Marija Maras with family, along with many nieces and nephews in the Rukavina and Majerović families in Canada and Croatia. Milka was born in Trnovac, Croatia on July 23, 1937. She married her husband, Mate Rukavina on January 3, 1954. They began their life working on the vast Rukavina farmland in the plains of Lika nestled under the Velebit mountain. Milka quickly proved herself to her new in-laws and became the driving force in the operation of the farm. As the years passed, they realized a change was needed and they soon moved to Stuttgart, Germany for a time. They later embarked on a journey with their children, starting a new chapter in Canada in the summer of 1969. They quickly settled in Toronto and began their new Canadian life working hard and providing for their family. Milka was a dedicated employee of Weston Bakery Company and later Chocolate Products Limited until her retirement in 1996. Milka enjoyed her new life in Canada, building a beautiful loving home with her husband, and after a few short years they were blessed with 4 grandchildren. Milka's dedication to her family especially her grandkids whom she helped care for and raise while working the nightshift, was something to be admired. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her entire family every holiday and was the happiest when she was surrounded by all of them. Milka continued to inspire those around her with her work ethic and drive to succeed, as was proven when she attained her driver's license at the age of 53. In her retirement with her beloved husband Mate, she enjoyed many wonderful years travelling to Cuba, Aruba, Florida and their beachside home in Novalja on the island of Pag in Croatia. Later years were delightfully spent watching her beautiful great grandchildren grow, attending many of their dance recitals and school events. Milka always liked to stay busy and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, gifting many of these hand-crafted items to her family which they will cherish always. Milka lived her life with dignity, respect and her Catholic faith, and was loved by so many. Her kindness and selfness nature was the greatest gifts that our hearts have ever known. She was the perfect combination of strength and softness. Baka, you were everything to all of us and we will never be the same without you. But we hope you can relax now and rest easy. Enjoy your reunion with Dida, you deserve it. Say hi to him from all of us.
