How does one say goodbye? We cannot say goodbye because we will meet again someday.

We will only agree to "hit pause."

We know that you will be watching over us. Your physical presence will be grieved but your soul carries on.

Shannon you are our love, our protector and friend. Your character so big and your stature so small.

A patient and nurturing soul that smiled into the darkness.

Your authenticity and infectious energy will be deeply missed. We will celebrate the beauty of your 45 years, with laughter and tears but not hopelessly.

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.”

~Henry Van Dyke~

Shan(s) We will miss you, our sister, mother, wife, daughter and friend. Until we are "un-paused."

Beloved and adored wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Stephanie (Steph) Weddel passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family on January 9, 2024.

She is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, their children: Donnie, Chloe, Lincoln, and Dexter; and a large extended family.

Steph is predeceased by her father. Steph was born on June 23, 1973, to Lloyd and Ollie Wilson, the youngest of five children: Sharon, Graham, Craig, Dawna, and Stephanie.

She grew up in Uxbridge, Ontario, immersed in the family farm and auction business, and involved in school, church, and community activities. Steph attended the University of Guelph where she earned a degree in Childhood Studies. Glenn and Steph were married on November 2, 1996, expanding her family circle with parents, Doug and Pat Weddel, and siblings: Lisa, Jen, and Phil. Glenn and Steph built their life together with shared values of faith, family, adventure, hospitality, and generosity.

Their home was always a hub of activity with Steph creating the environment for people to gather and enjoy time together. This became an additional joy for Steph when they bought Lily Island on Otter Lake, a place she loved to be with her family and friends.

Steph’s faith and personal relationship with Jesus exhibited genuine joy and a heart filled with love for God and others.

She had a special connection with children and youth, working as an Early Childhood Interventionist in York Region for several years. She was one of the founders of Precious Minds, serving families for more than two decades through this local charitable organization.

Steph invested in young people through their church’s youth ministry and walked closely as a mentor with many women. Steph continued to live and love well throughout her past year of illness, surgeries, and treatment.

Even with a terminal prognosis, she chose to live each day with strength, grace, and joy; and she will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

Although she was hoping to live longer, Steph never complained about her situation, she continued to engage with people and events as able, and she jumped into the adventure with Glenn to travel as much as possible as a couple and with their children.

A celebration of Steph’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13th, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Uxbridge Baptist Church, 231 Brock St. W., Uxbridge, and available by livestream. Steve (Istvan) Szuhai

Steve (Istvan) Szuhai

Listed in

DECEMBER 10, 1936 – JANUARY 8, 2024

Sunday night at his home in Whitby ON, Steves heart stopped while sleeping in his favourite chair.

He left us on his own terms, albeit a little sooner than expected, but peacefully and painlessly.

Steve (Istvan) was born in Hungary in 1936, where he overcame unspeakable hardships and eventually escaped to Canada during the Hungarian revolution.

Arriving alone and with nothing, he was accepted by Canada where the University of Winnipeg opened their doors to refugees of the Hungarian revolution in 1956.

He worked hard to teach himself English, did small jobs for extra money and worked summers as a cook for CN Rail. Eventually he made his way to Toronto where nothing could stop him, focused on improving his situation, eventually had his own business married Gail Helen, a beautiful woman that they shared 3 children with. Renee, Stephen, and Jennifer.

He was a hard worker and perpetual student, always taking classes to improve himself and taking on additional odd jobs to provide for his family. Going to classes part time he gained a Bachelor of honours degree in his 60’s. He was an equally gifted teacher and mentor, especially when numbers were involved.

Steve was committed whole heartedly to his grandchildren Zachary, Emma and Aidan and would take every opportunity to support them in all their endeavours providing his love, time, guidance and of course the occasional discipline. Steve never imagined he would ever see his homeland, Hungarian family, or childhood friends again.

When the iron curtain fell all that changed and after decades was able to reunite with loved ones, introduce them to his Canadian family and enjoy the laughter of his relatives mocking his bad Hungarian accent. Coming back to his roots was one of the most joyous times of his life, and his Hungarian became much better.

From our European family he is survived by 3 remaining siblings, their children, grand children, and we are still counting all of the cousins.

Steve had a dedicated commitment and love for God.

He clearly understood and appreciated the divine guidance and many miracles it took to guide his path.

His knowledge and respect for his spiritual growth was consistent and determined.

This has been reflected in the kindness and generosity he has always been willing to share with others, whether family, friends, or someone he didn’t know but was in need.

His huge heart is now at rest. Love you Poppa, enjoy this exciting new journey.

Celebrations of life will be held in both Whitby Canada and Budapest Hungary, dates to be announced.

His childhood years of suffering through wartime cruelties reflects his choice of charities.

In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Covenant House in Toronto helping needy children on the streets. https://covenanthousetoronto.ca/ .

Scott was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He was fiercely loyal, incredibly charming, and loved with a depth that is difficult to put into words.
