It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our sister Jane Irving (Greenbank, Ontario) who passed away on Saturday, January 27th, at the age of 67 in Lindsay, Ontario. Janey was born in Glasgow, Scotland and true to her roots, she fought a courageous battle against cancer. Like a Scottish warrior she fought the battle right to the end.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Turnbull Irving and Irene Ireland; her husband Scott McKanday and her two furry kids, Eris and Harry. She is survived by her sister Ashley Irving (Karina); brother Walter Irving (Maggie); nieces Sarah (Cameron) and Macey; brother Cameron Irving; nephew Xavier, sister Maggie Irving (Matthew); sister Shelagh Griffin (John); nieces Maeve and Freya. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
Jane (aka: “Janey” aka ‘Sweetie’ and “Stewie”) will be remembered for her love of entertaining in her backyard with family and friends, she made the best chicken wings!. She also developed a special bond with the “Barn Cat Co-op”, a rescue organization in Greenbank, Ont. and made regular donations to support them. In her younger days, playing baseball brought so much joy to her life, she may have been little, but she was mighty in left field!.
Jane touched so many people through her journey, and connected with everyone she encountered and made them feel special. Although not fluent in languages other than English, Jane went out of her way to learn snippets of several languages so she can converse with people she encountered throughout her life, whether it be the corner store shop owner or a perfect stranger at a grocery store. She was always your biggest cheerleader in the midst of a hard fought battle, ready to lift you up and encourage you to carry on.
Lest we forget her unwavering commitment to continue playing Scott’s lotto numbers every week, along with a few of her own scratch tickets, which she always managed to win big!.
All who knew her, will never forget her warm, kind, generous and truly feisty nature. Her absence will leave a great void.
We take comfort in knowing that Janey is now at peace and kickin’ it with our ‘peeps’
