On August 2nd, 2024, the world got a bit dimmer as we said goodbye to the twinkle-eyed smile of our dad and husband, David Ross Robinson, aka Grizzly or Griz, of Oshawa ON (though Greenbank at heart).
David was born on October 5th, 1949 in Toronto to James and Vera Robinson. He spent is childhood in Downsview with older brother John, younger sister Carol (Jim Van Duzen). His quick wit and desire to make others laugh helped him form many life-long friendships.
In 1969, Dave met “Janny Sue” who became his wife in 1971. The young couple started married life in Toronto where David worked at IBM. After the birth of their two children, Craig T. and Amanda K., they moved from the big city to Dave’s dream home in Greenbank. Here, Dave and Janice raised their children and lived for 36 years.
Dave’s early years in Greenbank saw him volunteering for community activities, most notably Saturday Morning Movies, Children’s Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween parties, and chaperoning camping trips with Scouts and the Greenbank United Church. While Dave didn’t dance, he enjoyed many trips with the Step in Time Cloggers, deciding to hone his hunting skills; Bargain Hunting. If there was a bargain to be found, Dave would track it down. Always creative, Dave threw energy into many outlets including photography (53 rolls of film from western travels), illustrations, or carving either wood or soapstone.
Amanda and husband David Slonim gave “Pops” two wonderful grandchildren, Ruby and Desmond, whom he adored. He earned the affectionate nickname of “Grandpaparazzi”. Dave retired from IBM after 32 years of service. Dave and Jan enjoyed their travels with family to Israel, Disney World, Alaska, Arizona, California, and multiple trips to Hawaii.
Dave is predeceased by both of his parents and his sister Carol. He is survived by wife Janice Robinson, children Craig Robinson and Amanda and David Slonim, grandchildren Ruby and Desmond, brother John, in-laws Jim, Nancy & Marvin, Lars & Kathy, Bruce & Connie, 12 nieces and nephews, their children, and innumerable life-long friends.
Dave will be greatly missed by those who knew him. A celebration of life at a later date is currently being planned.
