1961-2022
Leaving a legacy of love and caring, Peter Verschuuren departed our world too soon on April 6, 2022.
Born in 1961 to Mary and Joe Verschuuren in Pickering, Peter grew up in the country.
As a teenager, he loved his cars.
Upon the early passing of his father, he proudly assumed responsibility for the family landscaping business while still in his 20’s. His career would lastly take him to the Town of Ajax where he brought great devotion to his work and enjoyed the camaraderie of his co-workers.
Peter was forever active; helping family, friends and neighbours. His real passion was his family. He was a doting son to his mother, Mary; for whom weekly-or more-visits, meant car trips, shopping, groceries, and handiwork at her retirement apartment.
Debbie, Peter’s loving companion of 29 years and wife of almost 13 years, was at his side until his final moments.
She tended tirelessly to him throughout his illness – during and following the passing of her own mother just three months ago. Joseph, Peter’s son with his first wife, Suzanne, became his constant companion, taking him to his medical appointments and assisting with chores that needed doing as time wore on, the latter often with his girlfriend of many years, Alex.
His step-daughter, Michelle and step-grandson Jackson were vital parts of his life as were Gregory and Kaitlyn, siblings to Joseph.
Peter, the sweet man they knew to be considerate, opinionated, funny, and kind, will also be hugely missed by sisters and brothers-in-law Joany & Mark and Marie & Gary, by his sister-in-law Colleen, and by his step-siblings and their spouses, Eva & Tony and Richard & Sandi.
Among those cherished ones who had already left us were Peter’s dad Joe, stepfather Ted, sister Ginny, and parents-in-law Linda and Al.
Peter’s final wishes were simple - to be remembered for who he was without fanfare, formal visitation, flowers, or a service.
Family and friends who wish to celebrate his life may consider doing so by donating to your local food bank; addressing hunger, especially among children, was a meaningful cause for Peter. Alternatively, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lakeridge Health Foundation.
Finally, the family thanks the staff of the Lakeridge Health Oshawa palliative care unit for their attention to Peter’s comfort in his final days.

For the last fifty years you have been my rock.
You gave me two great children and you were an amazing mother.
We worked hard and came a long way. You have been taken from me too early and my heart is broken.
You’re a beautiful, classy, elegant, smart, one-of-a-kind woman and I was lucky to have you.
We did lots of awesome things over the years, had lots of fun and good times; you were the backbone of our family. Loving you made me a better man.
I will miss your soft kisses and warm hugs. We were a team. I must say good-bye to you Pam.

October 15, 1949 - March 10, 2022
Philip Anthony Chaplin arrived from England shortly after his first birthday.
He was born on October 15, 1949 and sadly passed away on March 10th, 2022 surrounded by his family.
He spent the 72 years of his life bringing an unimaginable amount of joy to those around him.
From his youth, he adopted a love of classic cars, fast cars, the mechanics of cars and Valerie, who later went on to become Mrs. Chaplin.
Together they built a loving home with 3 adored sons, Matthew, Andrew and Thomas all of which inherited Philips's tender heart and loving nature.
Phil by trade was an electrician like his father and a business owner for over 30 years.
A hard worker, he took pride in a job well done and was a man of integrity, honouring the shake of a hand.
Phil loved to welcome others into his home with a Keg Burger or a cup of coffee.
It wasn’t uncommon to catch Phil talking the ear off of anyone who would listen.
He was never known to be short on conversation and his humour was often quick to make an appearance as he found great joy in teasing others with witty banter and the all too frequent “Dad Joke”.
The fondest memories of those who knew him are without question full of laughter, kindness and humility as he touched many hearts in many ways over his lifetime.
Phil approached even the most difficult times, with strength and love, wanting nothing more than to be at home surrounded by his family. This last time was no different.
Losing Phil is an unimaginable loss that will forever leave its mark on all of our hearts, but we may rest, assured, that we will be welcomed in the future with a hot coffee, Keg burger and Phil with his cheeky grin.
Phil will be lovingly remembered by his wife Valerie, children Matthew and Thomas (Stephanie), brother Gary (Patti), his extended family Heather (Fred), Tom (Carol), Marilyn (Craig), the late (Bill), Karen, his best friend Rick (Rose) for many decades, Aunt Dawn, cousins Janis, Marilyn (Ron), Trevor and his many nieces and nephews.
Phil would definitely want it mentioned that he was the reigning Monopoly Champion over Ryane and Leland.
He will be greeted with joy by his son Andrew, father Reg, mother Joan and his Uncle Tony who all pre-deceased him.
In the Fall a Celebration of Life will be held on Phil’s October 15th birthday.
Condolences may be offered at etouch.ca .
Of Zephyr Ontario, was born in Newmarket on February 21, 1967.
He died on March 17, 2022, by the side of his daughters Cara and Leah Maloney and his sister Tanya Comrie in Markham-Stouffville Hospital.
Son of Shawn (deceased) and Sheila Maloney.
Brother of Shane Maloney (Elizabeth Gates, deceased), David (deceased) and Larry Bleasdale, and Leon Maloney (deceased) (Barbara Lockie).
Patrick also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.
He single-handedly raised his daughters and honourably raised others, including Shanna Ryan.
He dedicated his working life to the IUOE Local 793, the highways, and firearm safety.
His free time was spent at his woodlot in Kinmount, splitting wood by axe and creating artwork and structures with wood, soapstone, iron, and earth.
Patrick could also charm a crowd with his wailing harmonica.
He walked the world in his duster and with his trusty beagle (Mister Guinness) by his side. His everlasting comfort and ability to make us cry with laughter will be missed.
We will remember him through the knowledge he has passed on to us from ancient times, his morals of empathy and acceptance of all folk, and his intensity to work at a level most humans could not fathom.
Feared by some and loved by many, we will forever carry his legacy in our hearts.
Our dear Patrick will now be laid to rest with his ancestors peacefully in Brechin.
Join and share your stories of remembrance for the viewing at Low and Low Funeral Home, Uxbridge, on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 9:00 a.m., and service to follow at 10:00 a.m.
