Passed away expectedly, yet peacefully at Hillsdale Terraces in Oshawa on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the age of 93.
Jean was the loving mother of Donna and her husband John Teravainen.
Cherished Grandma of Kevin (Lori), Jamie (Mary Anne) and Jeff (Anastasia); Great-Grandmother of Kaitlin, Kyla, Payton and Ava.
She is survived by her sister Dora and will be loved and remembered by her extended family and friends.

On August 11, 2023, at the age of 83, Joanne passed peacefully at Bowmanville Hospital, after a struggle with cancer.
She is survived by her son Jamie, daughter Pamela, and by her grandchildren, Noah and Taya Larkin, and Walker Emmons.
Joanne was a noted pianist and piano teacher all her life, and a church organist for 64 years, at many Scarborough churches: Westminster Presbyterian, Iondale Heights United, Guildwood Presbyterian, St. Andrews Presbyterian, and St. John’s, Milliken, Presbyterian.
She retired last year from her final church, Newcastle United Church. Over the years, she taught hundreds of piano students, many of whom took what they learned from her and shared it with others. She loved to sit with her cats, doing crossword puzzles or talking to friends.
Many will remember sitting outside with Joanne, drinking white wine and laughing, or unburdening themselves to her receptive ear. Her music, her smile, and her warmth of spirit will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill St S, Newcastle, on Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 2pm to 5pm. A funeral service will be held at Newcastle United Church, 84 Mill St S, Newcastle, on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 11am followed by a reception in the church hall. A private family interment will take place in Scarborough.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet after a brief illness at Scarborough Birchmount Hospital at the age of 81.
She was the daughter of the late William and Louise Cane.
She was the beloved wife of Rod and loving sister to Judy (Donald) of Picton.
Dear stepmother to Scott, Penny (Rick) and Jodi (Joe) and sister-in-law to Karen and Cathy.
Janet spent her career as a high school teacher, first teaching history and English and later English as a second language.
During her teaching years she spent some time in Tenerife, a Spanish island, teaching English at the Berlitz School.
After retiring she remained very active, travelling, golfing, skiing, bowling to name a few.
Always in pursuit of enrichment she was an avid reader, belonged to a book club, and became a member of the Academy of Lifelong Learning where she participated in many courses and lectures both as a presenter and facilitator.
Janet’s outgoing personality and her many acts of kindness and generosity will be very much missed by all her friends and associates.
Cremation has taken place.
A private family gravesite ceremony will be held at a later date.

Born May 30, 1939 in the Royal Victoria hospital in Montreal, died peacefully on August 13, 2023.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife Violet, and we are very certain he has made his way directly to her.
John’s daughters, Julie Sandwell and Patricia Blackburn, his grandchildren Shannon, Fiona, Melissa, Nathan and Julia, his son in law Michael Sandwell, his brother Tom Nettleton and family, his many friends and all who met him along the way will miss the joy and laughter he brought to every room he was in.
There is comfort knowing he was loved and is now at peace. We will picture him golfing with friends and dancing with Violet.
Thank you to all the staff at The Village of Taunton Mills for taking excellent care of John.
And a special thank you to staff in the Claremont Neighbourhood for making it feel like a home full of the love and smiles he knew all his life.

She was born August 2, 1926 to Emily & Louis Baker in Toronto.
