Jim died peacefully on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, in his 97th year.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ann, on January 1st, 2023, and he longed to be together with her again, having been together for over 70 years.
He was also predeceased by his parents, the Rev. Jim and Jeannie, and his younger siblings, Stanley (Merle) and Anne McKinney (Roy).
Jim is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian (Monica) and Ronald (Diane), grandchildren, Heather and Christie McClure, Sarah (Éric) D’Aoust, Brendan and Victoria McClure, and great-granddaughters, Élise, Amélie and Naomie D’Aoust.
He is also remembered fondly by nieces and nephews in Canada and abroad. Jim was ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Irish Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland in 1951.
His first charge was the Presbyterian Church in Killymurris. Jim and Ann, with Brian, emigrated to Canada in 1955 and settled in rural south-western Ontario where Jim took up his first two-point charge in Molesworth and Gorrie and where Ronald was born.
In 1961, the family moved to Whitby where Jim began a ministry which spanned 32 years at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
The St. Andrew’s congregation was like a second family to the McClure family. In 2001, Jim was honoured with the title ‘Minister Emeritus” of St. Andrew’s Whitby.
Jim was a proud Irishman and a proud Canadian – a perfect mix. In addition to travelling to Northern Ireland frequently on holiday, Jim and Ann loved getting away to their cottage on Horseshoe Lake, which for the past forty years was their “happy place.”
Jim loved God and was a man of great faith. Until his final days, he shared the Gospel with others and now he is reunited with Ann and in the presence of their Lord and Saviour. Jim will be deeply missed by his family circle and many friends.
