He was a tender husband and a supportive, present and proud Dad. Ed was a protector and a fixer. He worked hard for everything he had. He strived for knowledge, never stopped learning and delighted in passing it on to others.

He was genuinely kind-hearted, thoughtful and considerate of everyone he knew.

Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Charles William Kemp.

Forever Cherished Mother of Kathleen Leonora Greenley (Mark).

Loved by her 3 Grandchildren, Ashley (Derrick), Raymond (Andrea) and Connor (Kayla).

Lovingly remembered by her 8 Great-Grandchildren, Kinsley, Cohen, Rylen, Caelum, Sutton, Auley, Peyton and Easton.

Beloved daughter and only child of the late William Burton Smith and Josephine May Smith (née Roach).

Eleanor, a life long resident of the Town of Whitby, was an animal lover and a Leafs fan, rarely missing a game.

She had a sense of humour like no other and an air of beauty and style that turned heads all her life.

She loved to go flying with her husband Charles and together were active members of the Oshawa Air Club for many years. They became a flying trio when they welcomed their only child, Daughter Kathleen in 1963.

She will be deeply missed and spoke of often.

A Private Service will be held.

Interment at GROVESIDE CEMETERY, Whitby.

Cherished grandmother of Glenn (Laura), Jenny, Sam (Lola), Chris (Tina), and Lucas, and great- grandmother of Clementine, Lily, Jack, and Theodore.

Survived by her sisters Jean Overstreet, Noreen Lilley and Kathleen Desroches.

Predeceased by her parents James and Lydia Kane and her siblings June Bothwell, Gwen Dennis, James and Donald. Fondly remembered by all her family and friends.

A very special Thank You to Aunt Kath for all her time and dedication in looking after Mum the last few years.

Evelyn will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; and as a great baker and an avid euchre player. A Celebration of Life will be held later.

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Eric Emanuel on January 4th, 2022 at
the age of 69 years old.

He was an outgoing person who loved people and always provided a helping hand for others and his community. He leaves behind his loving wife whom he truly loved and cherished of 40 years, Maria.

His son Shane who he leaves as the “Man of the House”. His daughter Sheena who made him a proud father of “greatest and cutest nurse ever”.

Lastly his daughter Erica whom he loved dearly and never missed a day where he didn’t text or call. Eric will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, he always had ability to make you laugh in any type of situation. Eric had a passion for his career.

He owned his own business called Eric’s Driving Academy. He respected and cared for all the driving instructors/examiners that worked closely with him. Eric was the baby of his siblings - his sister Nargis David and his brother Stanley Emanuel. He loved them and cared for them with all his heart, along with all his nieces and nephews and their children.

They often described him as the “fun uncle”. He will live on through our memories and stories we continue to share. We will always love you now and forever.

The family will receive guests at the McEachnie Funeral Home, Ajax, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow. Due COVID-19, Registration with funeral home is required.

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Erwin Hermann Hanke at Sunnycrest Nursing Home on January 3, 2022 at the age of 92.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Stefanie (née Milek) of 40 years and his brother (Herbert Hanke).

He leaves his sister (Hildegard Tiesler); two children: Art Hanke (Raffaella Figliano) and Bob Hanke (Selene Strilesky); two grandchildren (Max Hanke, Callum Hanke).

Born in Sakrau, Germany (Zakrzów, Poland), his family then moved to Salzgitter, where he apprenticed in a factory.

After immigrating to Canada in 1951, he moved to Oshawa to work as a tool and die maker at General Motors, buy a home, and start a family.

For many years, he enjoyed fishing, swimming, and summer time at the cottage.

As per Erwin’s wishes, a private burial will take place at Thornton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada.

With deep sadness we say goodbye to Elizabeth (Liz, Mum, Nana).

Elizabeth passed away at Ina Grafton Gage care home in Scarborough, Ontario.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband Capt. Marshall Anderson Chalmers, her father Eric Wootten , her mother Isabel McArthur Wootten and her brother Iain Wootten.

She is survived by her sons Andrew and Marshall, her daughter in law Kelly, grandson Jack and granddaughter Sierra. Liz had a big life that touched so many lives.

At the young age of 20 she fell in love with her captain , Marshall in Scotland and shortly after the were married and set sail on their journey of 18 years in West Africa in 3 different countries which brought her larger than life experiences and gave her strength, kindness and understanding.

After Africa, Liz and Marshall moved to Canada in 1982 to Quebec City and then to Ottawa, to Lefaivre and finally to Toronto. Our family would like to thank all the medical and care staff that blessed us with the extra years and memories we have today, from Quebec to Ottawa to Toronto.

Eamonn (Eddie) Somers, 81, of Ajax, passed away on December 25, 2021 following complications after a recent surgery.

Eamonn was born in Dublin, Ireland to Thomas and Kathleen.

He grew up with James (predeceased), Joseph (predeceased), Muriel, Phyllis and Padraig.

As a teen, he emigrated to Canada where he worked for various companies such as Eaton's, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Dunlop and Alsco before eventually working for the City of Toronto.

Early on in his twenties he fell in love with Ethel (predeceased). Soon after, Karen and Kelli completed the family.

As a family they enjoyed trips to Ireland and Newfoundland and searching for the occasional chip truck or flea market.

Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Eddie and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to loving his family.

Eddie is survived by his daughters Karen (Peter) and Kelli (Andrew) and grandchildren Brenden (Kay), Breana (Michael) and great grandson Hudson.

The funeral service will be held at McEachnie Funeral Home on January 4, 2022 at 2 pm. There will be visitation at the same location beginning at 1 pm.

1932 – 2021 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Raye (Gusty) on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the age of 89.

Beloved husband of Marion (nee Hayward).

Cherished father of Darlene, Raye (Dee) and Barry. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Leslie, Ashley (Karl), Terina, Brandon (Melanie), Breanna, Aaron and Shawn and by his great-grandchildren Noah, Raya, Bobbi, Zephyr, Brady and Brinley.

Survived by his siblings Dean “Wiener”, Keith and sister-in-law, Grace.

Predeceased by his parents, Albert and Edna West, his siblings Junior, Donna and Ron.

Sports were an integral part of his life, hockey, baseball, golf and he was an excellent card player. He passed on the love for all those things to his kids and grandkids.

He was a fantastic pool player, and a real sports buff. He never missed a daily crossword puzzle. He also never missed the opportunity to tug the hair of his grandkids, and eventually his grandkids too.

A man of few words, he was loved and respected by all who knew him
