Ronald (Ron) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Lakeridge Health Palliative Care Unit in Oshawa on Sunday February 5, 2023, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Peterborough, Ontario on October 27, 1947, and lived in the Kawartha, Clarington, and Durham Region area all his life.

Ron’s passion for sports, specifically hockey, baseball, tennis, bowling, golf, fishing, football, and horseshoes both competitively in his youth and leisurely throughout his life.

In fact, he was an avid bowler right up to the end and loved playing with his team. Ron had a display cabinet which he proudly displayed bowling trophies.

Ron married Marilyn Webb on November 8, 1969, in Pontypool, Ontario. They had two children Brian and Kimberly. The family lost Marilyn in the prime of her life in 1983 to Melanoma Cancer. Marilyn remained the love of Ron’s life until he passed with her picture beside him.

Ron re-married Sharon Webb, until their divorce a few years after.

During Ron’s career, he worked at Curvply in Orono (where he met Marilyn), IGA in Orono as the Meat Manager, Gen Auto Shippers in Oshawa, and was a master franchise owner of Trend Tidy’s to name a few. No matter what he did, he loved working with his co-workers and always gave it his best.

Ron was loved by all who knew him and made friends easily over the course of his life. He was always ready to lend a hand and help others.

After a second cancer diagnosis at the onset of the Pandemic in 2020, Ron never gave up hope but needed additional care. He was so fortunate to have an incredible team of healthcare professionals and home care nurses that assisted him daily.

The kindness shown by his health care team and best friend Gary Burrows will be always remembered and grateful by the family.

Ron spent his last few weeks of his life in Palliative care at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. Many staff members went out of their way to communicate how kind and courteous he was even as his health deteriorated.

Our family is very appreciative of the wonderful care he received from Dr. Danny Enepekides and Oncology team at Sunnybrook Hospital, Dr Dukic in Oshawa, and the entire Palliative care team at Lakeridge Health.

Ron is survived by his two children and Brian (Daniela Rosella-Good) and Kimberly (Lucas Cunningham) along with 3 grandchildren Gabriela & Dante (Brian and Daniela), Calvin (Kimberly and Lucas), sister in-law Carole Truax and nieces & nephews.
