It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Richard Cook age 74 of Oshawa Ontario passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Friday May 5th, 2023.

Loving husband of Jean Cook, father of Steven (Stacey), Jacalyn, grandfather/great grandfather of Dawna, Amanda, Joey, Makayla, beloved son of John E Cook & Hilda Jean Cook (predeceased), brother/sister Al (Clara), Rob (Pat), Mike (Sandra), Sandra, pre deceased Sharon (Dennis), Peter.

Missed and loved by many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Small graveside ceremony will be held at MOUNT LAWN CEMETERY 21 Garrard Rd. Whitby ON. on May 18th at 10 am.

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Jack Churchill at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Beloved husband of Gillian Marjorie (nee Grepe) for almost 59 years.

Much loved son of the late John and Florence Churchill.

Cherished brother to Lorraine and the late Douglas Churchill.

Dear brother-in-law to John Grepe (Gail), Nancy Grepe (Michael Brown) and the late Margaret Grepe and Janet Hoare.

A generous and loving uncle to Jennifer Hamilton (Daniel) and John Churchill (Kerri), and to Anne Hoare (Michael) and John Hoare (Susan), Christa Ruhl (Christian) and Robert Grepe (Amanda).

Great-uncle to Charlotte, Sophie; Ella, Lily, Harrison; John Paul; Emma, Jessica.

He had a long and successful career as an insurance broker with Tomenson Saunders (now Marsh). A great lover of Dixieland Jazz, he played drums with The Hammered Brass.

A life-long sports fan, Jack started coaching local Leaside baseball and hockey teams in his twenties and more recently became a soccer fan, particularly of his English Premier League team, Liverpool.

Fondly remembered by everyone for his great sense of humour, and infectious laugh. Always a believer in giving back, he was an active supporter of multiple charities; a more sincere, caring and generous person one could never know.

We are heartbroken to announce Jim’s peaceful passing on April 30, 2023 in his 80th year.

His family greatly blessed him in his homegoing.

Born in 1942 in Prince Edward Island, Jim connected with everyone with his sense of humour, kindness and love throughout his life.

Jim was very fond of his church family and took care of the church grounds for over thirty-five years. He also greatly enjoyed working the church sound system for over thirty years.

Little Blessings Nursery School he cared for daily for many years. Making the children laugh, doing repairs, doing whatever he could to be of service. He was dearly loved.

His life’s work was at General Motors participating in union capacities and in the last number of years as District Committee man. His kindness and thoroughness of task provided the workers with direction and support.

Retiring in 1994, he enjoyed his backyard garden and home. His family was his life and he will live on in them.

A special thanks to the caring team of nurses and Doctor Chong at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on 7C floor. His memory will be cherished forever.

Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eunice McGee; his daughters; Christine (Paul), Debbie (Jason), his grandchildren; Kailan (Kevin), Jacob (Amanda), Sarah (Kelly) and Rachelle (Dylan) and Natasha, his great grandchildren; Mila and Todd.

Predeceased by his parents Mildred and James McGee. Jim's 16 brothers and Sisters: Wayne (Winnie, deceased), Inez (Graham deceased), Ben (Dianna), Raymond (Dorothy), Joyce (Pat), Elaine (Danny deceased), George, Beatrice, Leo (Kathy), Evelyn (Glenn), Douglas, Theresa, Margaret, Louis, Danny, Dianne (Bill).

He is fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 4th at Whitby Free Methodist Church, 1916 Rossland Rd. East, Whitby from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow. Funeral arrangements with Mount Lawn Funeral Home, Whitby.

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados on July 29, 1940.

Predeceased by her loving parents Leone & Sydney Evelyn and her sister Debra.

Survived by her siblings Sydney (Joy), Bernadette Cover (the late Frank), Leo (Kathy), Victor (Mary Lou), and Dwayne (Diane). Joan Ann will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.

Joan Ann was an avid skier and owned a ski chalet in Collingwood for many years that was enjoyed by family, friends and co-workers. Joan Ann took a retirement package from General Motors Oshawa Ontario after more than 30 years of service. She then followed her passion for Astrology and founded Astrological Consultations.

She was a well-known advisor, lecturer and teacher. Joan Ann was the President for many years for the Canadian Association for Astrological Education (CAAE) and taught Astrology at Durham College.

Joan Ann was a Toastmistress and member for more than 25 years of the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW) in Durham.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10-11 a.m. at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 11 a.m.

Urn Burial to follow at Thornton Cemetery.
