Peacefully and surrounded by her family, Senay Unsal passed away on March 4, 2023 at 85 years old.

Born in 1938 in Istanbul, Turkiye to parents Reshat and Sabahat Denizci, Senay and her late husband Sabri moved their family to Canada in 1964.

Survived by her children Simrah (Onur) and Serhat (Xiao). Grandmother to Koray (Justine), Sera (Tyler) and Sezgi (Matthew). Great Grandmother to Wesley, Nico and Brooks.

After studying fashion design in Istanbul, Turkiye, she worked for many renowned fashion houses in Toronto in the 1960s as a seamstress. She had a long career in retail sales and retired from La Vie en Rose in 2020 after making many lifelong friends.

Loved by everyone she crossed paths with, she will always be remembered for keeping up with the latest trends, her love of Turkish and popular music, and suntanning on the beach. She adored Saturday dinners with Serhat and Xiao, mother-daughter shopping trips and travelling to Florida with Sim, and loved to hang out with her grandchildren.

She also enjoyed visiting with family and friends while travelling back and forth between her homes in Toronto and Istanbul. She will be greatly missed.

She will be interred at Pine Ridge Memorial Gardens in Ajax, Ont.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Elvera (Effie) Jane Hotchkiss on February 22, 2023.

Effie was predeceased by her beloved husband David in 2019; survived by son Jason Hotchkiss (Julie) and daughter Natasha Moffett (Andrew) and grandchildren Colton and Averie Hotchkiss and Isabelle, Sophie and Annie Moffett.

Born in 1940 in Ignace, Ontario, Effie was the second of seven children of Ken and Laura Lind.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, brothers Ken junior and David Lind.

Survived by sisters Pauline Vranesich, Sonja Squires, Thelma Lind and Candice Lind.

Effie spent her formative years in Northern Ontario and moved to southern Ontario to further her education. It was there she met the love of her life David on a blind date. Together they raised Natasha and Jason and were long-time residents of Whitby. Family and home were Effie’s main focus.

They loved to travel and with their young family, she and David spent two years in South Korea. As a family they enjoyed camping and travelling to their son’s hockey tournaments.

She was an avid reader and could engage in any conversation.

In later life Effie and David would spend winters in Mexico and Arizona and summers at the family trailer in Peterborough. They enjoyed learning how to play bridge together and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren.

A celebration of Effie’s life will be held at W.C. TOWN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 110 Dundas Street East, Whitby on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at 2pm.

Aged 78, Elizabeth Ann Letcher (née Clarke) passed away peacefully early in morning of February 28, 2023 in the Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa, ON.

Elizabeth (Liz) was born in Toronto, ON, on November 11, 1944, although she moved early on to and grew up in Whitby, ON.

Elizabeth was the mother of two sons, Robert James and Shawn David Letcher.

She was the proud gramma of Sophie Alexandra and Chloë Aurora Letcher and also of Samantha and Morgan. She was also the mother-in-law and friend of Chantal Nault (wife of Robert James).

Elizabeth is survived by her sister Jacqueline (of Oshawa) and aunt of Christine, Stephen and Margaret. Elizabeth will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.

Liz was a caring and fun-loving person and loved people and highly valued her friends including those at 655 Harwood Ave. in Ajax and elsewhere across Ontario and nationally.

Liz considered Jamaica her second home as she frequently visited the island over the years and attested by numerous good friends from the island.

Elizabeth will be cremated and interred at GROVESIDE CEMETERY in Whitby.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who can donate do so by sending a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory, or to the Lakeridge Health Foundation or a charity of their choice.

Great Grandmother of Jackson, Mitchel, Cooper, Maya, Jacob, Isla, Esme, and one on the way. Will be missed by her surviving siblings Mary, Paddy, Joan and family in Ireland, and her special friend of 70 years, Irene Thompson.
