It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Jacqueline (Jackie) Doris Stewart at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on January 14, 2024.
Jackie was born in Doaktown, NB, and came to Toronto in her late teens.
Jackie was predeceased by parents Irene Olive Close (nee Morehouse) and Leslie James Close, husbands Harold Beggs and Robert Stewart, siblings Leona, Arlen, Lorraine and Beverley, and granddaughter April.
Jackie came from a large family and will be missed by many. Her siblings Shirley, Carol and Detra, her 4 children - Mike (Lyn), Peter (Joan), Jai (Dan) and Colleen, her grandchildren - Ryan (Cindy), Deanna (Sonny), Matthew (Alana), Mike (Jenelle), John and Jenna, and her great grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Callum, Ashby, Gavin, Liam, Zachary, Eloise and Isla-Rose. Jackie was a strong caring woman and loved by many.
She had a sparkle in her eye and never met a stranger. She went from working as a cashier at Dominion Stores, owning a Home Hardware Store to Sheep Farming in retirement. She had a heart of gold and if you were an animal in her home, you hit the jackpot.
She lived a long and full life and will be missed by her family and friends. We’d like to give a special mention to Home and Community Care Support and Services, our Case Manager, our PSW’s (St. Elizabeths) and our Nurses (Para Med) that helped us to keep Mom at home for the last 2 years.
With their support, Mom was able to spend the last few years in her home and these people became family to us.
A thank you also to Lakeridge Hospital Bowmanville.
Although Mom was only there for a few days, their care for her was so appreciated.

Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, Légère family members, and friends. Jeanne will be remembered for the loving and nurturing home that she created for her husband Nicholas and her 3 children.
Once married, she left her childhood home in New Brunswick in the late 1940’s to follow Nick to Ontario to make a better life for themselves and their future family. They even travelled to Pakistan for 2 years with their 2 oldest children in the late 1950’s – something totally “out there” at the time and a decision that was not readily accepted by her parents at the time.
Upon their return they settled in the Toronto area and Jeanne became involved in the church, made some new lifelong friends, learned to sew, crochet and needlepoint and often volunteered in her children’s schools and/or activities.
She was an avid reader and loved her soap operas too. Jeanne was a great cook (everyone’s favorite being her famous spaghetti sauce), was known for her love of baking, especially her famous fudge, and for trying out new recipes on the family who thoroughly looked forward to it.
She always arrived at a family member’s home with a tray of fudge and/or baked goods. This is one of the fondest memories shared by everyone in her family – young or old.
A visitation for Jeanne D’Arc will be held Thursday December 28th, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10 AM at OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church (91 Ribblesdale Dr, Whitby). Interment afterwards at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery (355 Taunton Rd E, Whitby).
