James David Alan Gosling

Listed in

January 28, 1940 - December 20, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of James David Allan "Jim" Gosling the morning of Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa, Ontario.

Jim was born in Cornwall Ontario on Sunday, January 28, 1940, to George P. Gosling and Bessie Gosling.

Jim lost his mother very young, but later in his youth his father would remarry his stepmother Kaye, whom he would be very close with.

Jim spent his childhood in Cornwall and later, Toronto, with his brothers George, Ray, Jesse, and sister Mary.

Jim will be remembered as one of the kindest sweetest gentlemen the world would ever know. A lover of music and art, soft-spoken and always willing to lend an ear.

James was a Ryerson graduate, and was hired straight from school by IBM, where he worked for many years until retirement. It was through his job he would meet his beloved Faye, who was working with Canada Life, a client of IBM; she would catch his eye.

Jim and Faye married in 1971, and soon after they welcomed their first child David. They decided to buy a home in Oshawa, for many reasons, most famously so that Jim would have the sun at his back commuting to and from work. Two more children were to follow, Allan and Elizabeth.

Jim leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Faye; his children David, Allan and wife Liane, and their children Alexander and Abbigail; Elizabeth and husband Neil; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that Janice (Hathaway) Williams announces the passing of her amazing mother, Janice Ivy Williams on December 6, 2023.

She was born September 7, 1932 in London, England.

She passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa with her daughter by her side.

My mother, Janice, was the most amazing, energetic and adventurous woman I have ever met.

She was my best friend, and constant supporter and will forever be in my heart.

Predeceased by her beloved husband, Ron (Ronald Edgar Clifford) Williams on June 8, 1994.

She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Hathaway) Williams; granddaughter, Sarah-Jane Hathaway and grandson Oliver Hathaway.

Janice is survived by her sister Paulette Hughes of Rochford, England, as well as many nieces and nephews including great and great great nephews and nieces, all in England.

Janice had started her work career young in England as a reporter for the Essex Chronicle, and with that she met some fascinating and very interesting people while covering stories at a young age. Janice met her beloved Ron and ended up marrying in Uganda in 1953, where they spent many happy years until moving back to England and later in 1966, to Canada.

In her working career, Janice worked as a school secretary and later for Avon Canada as a Sales Manager. Leading her to their circle of Excellence in sales and awards and trips.

My mother enjoyed many accomplishments from being a member of the Independent Order of The Empire (IODE), Toastmistress, Red Hatter, Bowmanville Hospital volunteer, and Board Member for the Clarington Older Adults (Beech Street).

Most of all, her passion for Oil Painting using her many photos from trips as her inspiration. She sold at Buckhorn as well as local community art shows in Pickering.

In following my mothers wishes, a private cremation has already occurred and a private family celebration of her life will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a charitable donation in honour /memory of Janice Ivy Williams, she would have loved the Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Covenant House or whichever is your personal favourite charity.
