SEPTEMBER 16, 1966 – JUNE 12, 2023

On June 12th, 2023, Arnel Pamintuan Lagman passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a well-fought battle with stage 4 Pancreatic cancer.

Following a week of rain, the sun seemed to shine bright the next morning clearing the clouds for a pathway on his route to heaven.

Arnel, the eldest of two children was born on September 16th 1966 in San Fernando, Philippines to Corazon and Gregory Lagman.

Loving brother to Arlene Lagman, and son to his parents, he made a promise before his departure to watch over the family while he now reunite in Heaven with his Father Gregory.

Dedicated to excelling during his education, Arnel graduated high school at Henry Street followed by accomplishing a degree at Centennial College where he studied business management. Post-graduating, Arnel worked various jobs in the automotive industry as a production supervisor and most recently, at Sobeys warehouse as an operational supervisor alongside a team that never failed to express their undivided appreciation towards Arnels leadership.

Arnel married his beloved best friend Nilda in 1994 which in his words was the best day of his life. The loving couple cherished and recently celebrated their 29th anniversary on June 4th.

Resided in Whitby Ontario for the majority of their lives, a dream was born between his daughter Samara and himself to build a house where Nilda was born in South America. With the help of Nilda’s humble and wholehearted family, the family's dream home in Paraguay finished being built in 2021.

During Arnels final days, there was a guaranteed smile to cross his face whenever the family were to discuss memories of him making coffee and listening to loud music surrounded by all he loved and nature in this home. Arnel was born with the ability to make anyone around him feel the warmth and comfort of being at home.

Often referred to as “ Mama Nilda and Papa Arnel”, the loving couple built a foundation through Nilda’s occupation as a daycare provider where they became second parents to many families in the community. The most honourable role and occupation Arnel had and will forever be dedicated to is as a loving father to both Alexander and Samara Lagman. It is often said that Music was Arnel's first love. It was considered a rare occasion to be in a room with Arnel where there wasn’t music playing. Referred to as “Dj Nel” he will forever be known for his exquisite and unprecedented taste in music.

May his soul continuously live on through music as where words leave off, music begins. Simple, Happy, one-of-a-kind, the human face of what it feels like to smile under the sun. Arnel embodied a type of patience and positivity that never failed to make those around him want to become better people. During Arnels last months, it was crystal clear through the support and love of all he had crossed paths with, the positive impact he established during his time here.

On behalf of the Lagman Family, we would like to extend our gratitude toward the staff at the Oshawa Lakeridge Hospital. Especially the ER, ICU, Palliative care nurses, and doctors. To the Oncology clinic, and the Byron Street Medical Centre with outstanding service by Dr. Hanson Lo.

Thank you for providing outstanding care and creating a positive environment for both Arnel and the family during a difficult time. To friends and family who executed the unthinkable through ways of dedicated and unwavering support, your love will never be forgotten and is more than we could have ever imagined or asked for.

Arnel, there will never be enough words to describe your departure from our lives on earth, forever was never going to be long enough, and with that, we choose to say…. Until our paths cross again... the pleasure has been ours.

A visitation for Arnel will be held Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME.

A funeral mass will occur Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church - 91 Ribblesdale Dr Whitby.

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Reunited with his mum, dad, and 3 brothers, there will be bagpipes and high fives in heaven tonight.

Especially missed and loved by his 5 grandchildren, Connor, Sarah, Ceileigh (Kenneth) Parker, and Mackenzie. And his beloved great-grand daughter Isla. His sister Mhairi (Tom) in Scotland. And his many nieces and nephews in both Canada and Scotland.
