79, passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at 8:40 a.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2017 with his family at his side.Nick was born November 29, 1937, in Great Ryburgh, England.From England he moved to South Africa where he worked in the hospitality industry. On July 1, 1968, he arrived in Canada which ended up being his home. Nick had a wonderful life and lived it to the fullest.He enjoyed spending time with his family, travelling, watching sports, gardening, reading books and he was also passionate about trains. Nick had a wonderful sense of humour and was loved by all. He will be sorely missed.Survivors include his wife Sue; his 3 children, Mark (Susan), Craig (Raquel) and Claire (Dennis); his 2 step-children, Joyce (Richard) and Jeremy.Also surviving him are his 10 grandchildren, Sariah, Ariel, Jared, Danica, Charlie, Bryce, Bennett, Bo, Zoey and Elly. July 8, 1931 – May 10, 2017It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Schneider at Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa at the age of 85 years.Beloved husband of Elisabeth (nee: Muller) for 58 years.Loving father of Nicholas (Judy) and Susan. Proud Opa to his grandchildren Andrea and Matthew. Predeceased by his older sisters Maria (Lorenz), Frances (Louis) and Anna (John).Nick was born in Varoslod, Hungary in 1931, where he met his future wife Elisabeth.As ethnic Germans, his family was expelled from Hungary after the war. After a year in Germany, he immigrated to Canada, first briefly to Montreal and then permanently to Oshawa, where he reconnected with and married Elisabeth.He trained as an auto mechanic, then was awarded one of the very first Datsun (later to become Nissan) dealerships in Canada.Never a big fan of the city, he soon purchased a cottage lot in the Kawarthas. He had the shell of a cottage constructed, then completed all the interior work himself over the next few years. This became his regular summer weekend retreat for 45 years.After several expansions, he retired from the dealership for the freedom to travel, ranging from relaxing winter trips down south, through several trips back to his birth village in Hungary, to a tour of China.Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME 124 King Street East, Oshawa (905) 433-4711 for visitation on Friday 12th May from 6pm – 8pm and Saturday 13th May from 10 am – 11 am.Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Saturday 13th May at 11 am.
